I've finally managed to watch it. A truly horrific portrayal of war. The character of Florya looks constantly mortified , and the Director used live ammunition on set and terrified him throughout filming so that must have been a factor. His transformation on screen is something to really savour, although probably not ethically sound. The sense of impending doom and dread is thrust into the viewers face. Even the noise of the planes overhead sound sinister. I'm not sure I'll be in a hurry to watch it again as it is a traumatizing experience but it's quite clear when watching it, that it is a massively important film. I saw 'The Ascent', made by the Director's wife Larisa Shepitko recently and thought that was superb, but this is a step up. It's surely one of the most harrowing, realistic tales of the brutality of war put onscreen. I haven't rated a movie as 10 out of 10 for a number of years. But this is a 10 out of 10. Unforgettable

I don't like the melodramatic style and talking into cameras, but it's its own style

If this is not a horror movie i don't know what is. To put it shortly, it's an incredible voyage into the psyche and perversion of fascism that will leave you traumatized for a very long time.

The 2nd part of this movie is phenomenal. The 1st part however, although ok, could've been a lot better.

first half is very odd for western viewers , the second half is just genius

the acting of the girl was pretty bad, without it this would be 10/10 for the originality and all the efforts (omg the terrorised face expressions of floria)

The most terrifying movie about fascism.

I watched this because it was supposed to be so unsettling and emotionally jarring, but i was greatly disappointed. For me, it was very slow and just not gripping or moving enough to get into. Acting is good, but i found myself waiting for the parts that other reviewers found so "haunting" and they just never came. Just another movie about war and how evil the nazis were.

War as a trip to Hell. A hyper-realistic vision that step by step is becoming more and more allegorical. The Nazis ride through the fog, like horsemen of the apocalypse. Hitler portrayed, Hitler dead. The child turned into a man, the innocent gaze turned into horror. Requiem for the dead peasants. Hell taken to the movies like few times.

The waste of time friends!

This movie makes Schindler's List look like a comedy.

One of the best war films, if not the best, Come And See turns out to be a real nightmare.

The last 30 minutes were a stab in the heart, showing scenes that were inhumane but unfortunately, really happened. The camera is perfect, plunging us right into the boy's eyes, creating an empathy for him and his people that will shatter our souls. The acting of the boy (and also the girl) are nothing short of perfect for this type of film. The long takes in their eyes filled with terror at the sight of those attrocities, wow.

It is a devastating, brutal, dark, and sad film, and there is no Hollywood happy ending. It is pure war. And Klimov shows it to us as it really was, with this masterpiece of a film.

I have nothing more to say, just watch it.

I don't think this film is comparable to anything else ever made. It's somewhat odd, especially in the first half, but once it kicks off it refuses to let you go. Quite amazing how realistic it was, there was times in which I would have believed that they'd somehow gone back in time to film it (apparently the director used live ammunition which explains that). I don't think it was necessarily horrifying, more so unsettling, but maybe that's just me. One hundred percent worth watching at least once.
