"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" just opened this weekend. However, I can't make it to the theaters at the moment so I decided to watch the next best thing. That's right. You guessed it..."Creature", featuring the great Klaus Kinski!

I was mesmerized by the exciting story that features an alien that kills off the crew of a downed spaceship by mimicking its dead members. Oh sure, it sounds like it could be kind of like "Alien" or sort of like "The Thing". But the deal is, it's so rotten that you have to really work to see any resemblance to what looks to be a clear attempt to steal every idea possible from those two classics.

I'm not entirely sure what the creature looked like. To say it was unconvincing would be a massive understatement. I will say that it left no impression that it could have been intelligent enough to manipulate, much less hide from the crew. Even though that crew had to have been one the stupidest collection of space travelers ever assembled.

The only bright spot to me was some assorted practical effects shots of the spacecraft and some decent views of Saturn and its moon, Titan.

I always like to mention what I thought of the ending of a particular movie, but I can't remember the conclusion of "Creature" even though I just finished watching it about 3 hours ago. I'm figuring I wasn't thrilled with it.

Yeah it's an Alien rip off and the monster isn't as good.

But there are a few things that it actually did better, as far as the characters went.

The big lacking is the, well... Ripley made the Alien movies and you didn't have someone like her to stand out, you had neither a strong male nor a strong female lead... you didn't have any strong leads at all, and that.

Wendy Schaal did a respectable job for the intended intelligent scream queen, but given it's an alien rip off you didn't want her to be a scream queen, you wanted her to be bad@$$. And, for a standard horror movie scream queen she did a great job... just you didn't want that in a movie like this after Alien set the standard.

It was Klaus Kinski that stole the show and, unfortunately, they didn't let it ride on his back. He could have carried it if they gave him a longer role. He was fun to watch.

But ultimately it fails for weakness in characters and no real worthy lead.

But it was still entertaining, so 10 stars because... movies are made to entertain.

I notice that various people criticising the film for blatantly copying Alien but I say so what, for what it was I thought it was alright, I was never bored of the film and it did have an interesting plot. The film did make me laugh with how the doors sound in the film, the doors sounds like blaster firing from Star Wars so I thought that was definitely funny in a good way.

However I did find two problems with this film, the first problem I found was that the Alien creature was very under-used, it didn't really appear much until the final act of the film so that was a wasted opportunity. The second problem is that the story and some scenes were a bit ropey, and there's some things I find a bit baffling in it but not to the point of being obnoxious.

Even though people have discarded this film just because it's a low budget Alien clone but I say give it a chance because it's really not that bad.
