The Agatha Christie murder mystery Crooked House is a classic crime thriller. When her grandfather is poisoned Sophia de Haviland hires her former lover, and private investigator, Charles Hayward to look into the case before the murderer can cover their tracks and it becomes a public scandal. Featuring Christina Hendricks, Glenn Close, and Gillian Anderson, the cast is pretty solid, and newcomer Stefanie Martini gives an especially strong performance. Also, the script does a good job at building intrigue and suspense. Still, there are some pacing issues, and at times the plot can be a bit confusing. Yet while it has some problems, Crooked House is a dark and chilling film.

Fairly intriguing with a suspenseful reveal at the end. Looks of the movie were top notch.

Geez, what a letdown. This movie is so simple, that the director shouldn't be allowed near any Agatha Christie stories, let alone the mystery genre, ever again. There is no character development whatsoever and at no point was I wondering who did it. Crooked House 2917 is a basic show and tell in movie format that doesn't even bother to make things mysterious and exciting.

I think the criticism in the comments are a bit harsh. While it is certainly dull at points, I did find myself thinking about the characters and if they could have done it, which is what you're looking for in this kind of movie. Even all the way up to the end, I wasn't sure, and then things went crazy. It's gonna be boring if you passively watch it without your brain. But if you use your mind as though you're the detective you will be entertained.

I think what hurts it the most is the fact that it does seem quite true to life. Nothing peculiar happens while our lead man investigates the family. There's a few developments besides the typical "where were you last nights" but they don't drastically do anything besides make you think slightly more than you have (if you've been paying attention).

So ultimately I think many people would like this movie if they go in with an open (yet willing to be active) mind.

Decent movie the whole way through but the ending was way too abrupt.

what a dull and slow movie this was. Was expecting some mystery for an Agatha Christie movie - didn't get any. A waste of 115 minutes of my life.

I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan and I've read all the book and try to watch every movie or show connected to them… this movie was just disappointing. I never expect much of movies based on Agatha Christie stories, but this one was just amazingly bad. Bad execution. Acting was not that fine and direction felt weird at times – as did photography. Music and sound effects… let's not talk about them…
Altogether felt way too long and we were hoping for the movie to finally end!

I had higher expectations for this film, maybe that was my first mistake. The movie building up to the end was very spotty, not really making me feel any sympathy or connection to any of the characters. I was very "ehh" up until the very end of the film. Glenn Close (Lady Edith) definitely made this movie worthwhile. I feel she was the only actor who actually poured themselves into the role. The others seemed to be lost in La La Land somewhere mentally.

Dull Agatha Christie mystery is dead on arrival. The culprit? The director and every other member of the production team who contributed to this lifeless adaptation.

With the calibre of the cast assembled this ought to have been great. Sadly, as others have pointed out, it was let down by some bad directorial decisions, editing, etc. The final twist was good and well executed -
you can always rely on Glenn
- but I imagine a lot of people will give up before they get to see it.
