The few seconds of return to childhood at the end was not worth the hour plus of bratty, violent, hypersexualized preteens you had to sit through to get there. Realistic depiction of some girls? Sure. I remember girls like that. But meaningful writing or filming to leave you feeling educated or wanting to act in some positive way to make a difference? Nope. You just can’t figure out why anyone let their kids do this film or how anyone could film it and not question why half the (very creepy) shots were necessary. I kept hoping it would redeem itself and the online outrage people had without seeing it was dramatic, but I’m going to have to say it was pretty spot on, unfortunately.

@gigaberry it is the director's experience growing up. You may not like it but it is honest. How can you say that you are aware of such girls and then at the same time suggest that we don't need to see it. The response to this film reminds me of the response to the sports protests where athletes kneel. Or to the blm movement. because you are comfortable with your head in the sand doesn't mean everybody should be. It was painful to watch and that was exactly the point.

@1-gooth4w You are throwing around some wild accusations and drawing some absurd parallels there. By your logic, we all need to watch obscene, graphic violence to know it exists. Have you never heard a gunshot paired with a blackout scene, followed by a cut to a hospital? That’s clever and impactful art. I don’t need a close up of the bullet ripping through flesh and blood to get the message. I don’t need my actors actually shot for ”honesty” and authenticity. People are kneeling to draw attention to police brutality, not literally committing it on the field. Likewise, it was completely unnecessary to impose some of the actions they did on these young actresses, and to continue to zoom in and ogle their behinds and things. It might be the director’s experience, but her choice to subject another generation to it the WAY she did it, and on camera in perpetuity, was a tasteless, harmful, and poor decision. It’s not a subject issue; it’s a method issue. And the script just stunk. *shrug*

@gigaberry IMO the movie examines important issues of a timely nature. If you think girls this age are not looking at youtube videos of Hannah Montana shaking her ass and then imitating her you might want to think on it some more. It was uncomfortable to watch. That's the point. Anyway, your comments are a bit off the deep end. I'm done.

@1-gooth4w Take your “opinion” and go write your own review instead of insulting strangers on the internet and inserting words into their mouths. You’ll be happier.<br /> <br /> Also, I don’t claim to be a critic, but you’ve rated almost everything you watch a 10, and have nothing below a 6, so I don’t think you’re analyzing anything and you just came here looking to fight with someone. I’m not interested. My review stands. The script was poor, the execution was poorer. They could have told the story without exploiting kids, but they didn’t.
