A Dali interview, that turns into a movie, that turns into a dream, within a dream, within a dream, within somebody's else dream, within a movie, within a movie, withing a movie, withing a dream, ...

A bit on the surrealist side, obviously, but definitely not the most of Dupieux's films. A lot of repetition humour that really works.

The different actors playing Dali brings a bit more on the weird side, not sure it brings a plus t the movie though. At least on the first viewing. It may be that there is a deeper meaning, and paying attention to which actor plays in which sequence brings some hidden information. However, with Dupieux, it could also be totally random.

The character himself is quite unbearable. I don't know to what extent Dali really spoke and behave like that.
Baer is the worst. It's way too much, which is good if it was the goal, but it is painful to watch. Since he's in the first sequence, it really is a relief when you discover there are other actors and you will not have to see him the whole time.
On the other hand Lellouche is not enough. Marmai is totally forgettable, pretty bland.
Surprisingly I think Cohen was the best one, would not have bet on it.

Some things that really work: the first scene where he walks and walks and walks and it never ends. The recurring come back to the
priest's dream
, at various and sometimes quite long intervals, and it's consequences on what may, or may not, be real life.
On the other hand the quite long scene of Duris trashing Demoustier was very cringe.

Not his best movie, but as usual, good ideas, good actors, weird stuff (not too much). It's still refreshing in the middle of what's in cine these days.
