This is really a gem of a film. It has to be difficult to try to tell a story that combines both the horrors of high school (regardless of sexual orientation) mixed in with the complex topic of coming out (my heart goes out to anyone that has been through this). The writing and direction are top-notch but it is really the two leads that make the film absolutely sparkle. I would love to see them together again in ten years to do another film as they both have "star" written all over them.

[Göteborg FF] As a kind of Irish "Love, Simon" (Greg Berlanti, 2018), this is a refreshing look at the coming out but one that proposes a much more interesting reflection on gender roles, on sexual acceptance and hetero-society . The sense of humor is very sarcastic and the dialogue reflects the inner world of the characters, better defined in Amber than in Eddie. The construction of splendid secondary characters magnifies the protagonists.

This was unpredictably just as much about Amber as it was about Eddie. This is a lovely story and well told - it certainly hit a note with my partner and I, it's a shame we don't know more about their ending but I suppose that is part of the charm.

A sweet film with lovely friendship at the centre. It's set in a difficult time with a lot of pressure. I felt that.

Unfortunately the comedy didn't hit its mark at any point. You could feel the writers really straining with that sex ed video too. I don't think the film got a laugh out of me at any stage.
Also they seem to have applied a grainy filter to make it look more like the 90s or something? Just made it look low quality which was frustrating, especially in the landscape shots.

An enjoyably funny film, but still a realistic tale of the pressures surrounding 'coming out' to others.

A good depiction of the pressures faced at school when coming out and a sweet tale of friendship.

Worth watching once but once was probably enough. I liked Amber's character but found the chap too whiny to get attached. The scene-setting in rural 80s Ireland is the film's most successful element.
