another thing: I watched this movie twice, once with English and once with Polish subtitles. I noticed that when Ayano introduces Koharu to the doctor she introduces her as her sister in the English version but as her friend in the Polish Version. Could anyone with some knowledge of Japanese give me some closure as to which translation is correct?

@pamerlaedschn It sounded to me like she introduced her as her sister. That would also make sense at the end when the doctor refers to Koharu as a friend and Ayano looks stunned for a second because she didn't assume that the doctor would figure it out.

Unbelievable that this is a debut film haha. The coordination between the different people in the art department is stellar. Seriously, beside the phenomenal casting, where especially Ayaka Miyoshi and Tomoka Kurotani left an impact on me, what has stood out the most was the colors, the way light and the scenery would harmonize or contrast the clothing and even the nails of the actresses, the fact that each character had their own palette and how much of the mood all of those things together could carry. This is eye candy down to the smallest detail, only achievable with a very clear creative vision which is well communicated with the make-up, costume, lighting, camera and editing department.

A story of true friendship between two ATTRACTIVE young women, what is there not to like? lol

But truly, it was a decent film. The narrative was simple and non-exaggerated yet it didn't lack the elements of a compelling story. _Daughters_ takes on a very timely topic about single motherhood. Transitioning from realistic to surreal, the camerawork perfectly mirrored the shifts of emotions in the main characters. The casting choice was great and Hajime Tsuda's direction was commendable for a debut film, I wish it was more accessible to viewers.
