There is some decent fun to be found in _Beyond Anarchy_. It's more _Escape from LA_ than it is _Death Race 2000_, but still an entry in the franchise, which brings me to the core problem of Beyond Anarchy: Is it even really a _Death Race_ movie? The answer is yes, but to go beyond that an ask: Should it have been a _Death Race_ movie? The answer's probably no.

As I said to begin with, I had some fun with the movie, but the things that kept bringing it down were its awkward, half-hearted attatchments to the movies in the series that had gone before it. If they had have abandoned those sentiments completely, it probably would have made a better viewing experience, but then, if that had been the case, how could you call it _Death Race 4_? The opposite approach probably would have worked too, having Beyond Anarchy be an actual sequel that follows _Death Race 3_ and what came before in a way that makes sense, but then, it couldn't have been even close to the movie that we got.

Instead we have _Beyond Anarchy's_ sequel-limbo status, a movie that I don't regret watching, but that also can't really work for people who are fans of the _Death Race_ franchise, or for people who have never even seen a Death Race movie.

_Final rating:★★½ - Had a lot that appealed to me, didn’t quite work as a whole._

Hard to believe they got someone of Danny Glover's caliber to sign up for this steaming pile of tripe. Danny Trejo...meh, he's known for doing garbage films and he kind of fits in there but not Danny Glover. The movie itself basically sucked; yes, there was lots of violence and carnage (and considerably more gore than the other films) but overall, this movie just really reeked. The premise was good but, again as in earlier DR films, just felt - and LOOKED - like it was very hastily thrown together. So much more could have been done with this particular movie but it just seemed like no one wanted to actually put a STORY together so much as compiling a lot of different scenes of wanton violence. There were some great characters here but they got basically their "15 minutes of fame" and were then thrown on the discard pile. Characters like Johnny Law, the Fireman, Matilda the Hun and others could've added so much more to this but turned into just "bit players" with hardly any mention. On a personal note, I found the language completely atrocious and all the added sleaze and lewdness added zilch. Dialogue was scarcely more than a bunch of horribly cheesy cliche's and lewd comments thrown together (_"I could suck you off right now."_ Classy, huh? Probably go down in time right up there with _"Here's looking at you, kid..."_ from _Casablanca_ , right? ) and the closest thing to an actual conversation - the brief meeting between Conner and Frankenstein lasted...what?...all of 23 seconds and made absolutely no sense. I can't give this a true "Terrible" rating because the action was watch-worthy. Nothing else was, though, but I guess we don't watch these for intellectual stimulation, right? Disconnect your brain, plug your ears, turn on subtitles, and sit back and watch this one. Just don't expect much...
