Sci -Fi drama. Exellent idea. The only negative is it lacked tension in many scenes until I was reminded of the pretext (the hidden person in the room) and then it became a really tense and dark reality again. So either I didn't concentrate hard enough or the narrative structure wasn't balanced enough to keep things in mind that would have elevated the movie. The movie also felt a little long because of this. The story never stepped into the ridiculous which was a good thing. Its a brilliant look at media invasiveness, morality and entertainment exploitation. The movie predicted reality TV bang on. If you're thinking of watching it give it a go and see what you think.

When you like the film more than the movie.

A reality show in which a man films -- unbeknownst to her -- the final days of a terminally ill woman...

This piece of speculative fiction is a fascinating watch thanks to its prescience (it predicted modern reality TV over 40 years ago), its cast (the indelible Romy Schneider, a young Harvey Keitel, Harry Dean Stanton), and its director (the late and sorely missed cinematic encyclopedia Bertrand Tavernier).

As a movie, however, one regrets a road trip that doesn't go as far internally as it does externally, and a near-science future flick made in 1980 that looks like what I imagine the 70s looked like.

While I can't recommend the movie, I can definitely recommend the film.
