Has its moments, but this festive caper fails to shine as an example of the best that Christmas movies have to offer. Still, Broderick and DeVito are always good value.

After watching "The Nightmare Before Christmas" which really was a nightmare of a film, I think almost anything would seem like a dream. This film is more of what I was looking for on our festive night of films. I think I had seen the film but a long time ago, so I couldn't really remember it all that well. Nevertheless it was a very enjoyable film. I'm not sure about Matthew Broderick's skills as an actor. I didn't really feel as though he really believed who he was portraying. Throughout most of it he looked like he was acting, rather than making us believe he was the character. But as always, Danny DeVito was fantastic and almost any film that he's in will always be good.
Special mention has to go to Robert Leader, the Christmas Light designer and anyone in his construction crew. The lights are spectacular and must have taken ages to put together.
It's perhaps not a Must Watch, but it is still enjoyable to watch at Christmas time.

Just your everyday cheesy average christmas comedy with nothing magical, an alright team and a simple story plot about two guys battling to be the best Christmas guy.

Deck the Halls has a lot going for it, but fails to deliver the heartwarming Christmas comedy that it promises. When Buddy Hall attempts to create a Christmas light display so spectacular that it can be seen from space the town gets swept up in the excitement, which infuriates his neighbor, leading him to try to sabotage Buddy’s efforts. Both Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick are great comedic actors, but they have no chemistry in this film. Broderick’s performance is especially poor, giving a halfhearted effort at best. And, the plot opts to go for cheap laughs and clichés instead of giving any real insight on the modern Christmas of the new millennium. Still, there are a few heartwarming scenes and the soundtrack is quite good; featuring an impressive array of Christmas music. Yet despite a fine cast and some fun moments, Deck the Halls is an altogether disappointing film.

Stupid, whacky and bonkers... yet enjoyable. I found 'Deck the Halls' fun.

Danny DeVito is the film's star, no question. If it wasn't for him I'd potentially be rating this lower, I admit. He gives an amusing performance, while the hearty stuff directly with him works. Matthew Broderick is a little forgettable here but still produces a good display. Kristin Chenoweth is probably the best of the rest, but it's all about DeVito in truth.

I mentioned the heart works with the aforementioned actor, but elsewhere it's a a bit hit-and-miss. The final scene, that Chenoweth plays a part in, is very iffy - could've went either way, I just about liked it though. The humour is good, as is the plot - as silly as it is. I also really enjoyed how they did the lights.

I got entertainment from this.

Everything, the plot, the jokes, the clichés, are as bad as the pun in the title when you realize the neighbors' are named the Halls.

This is such a predictable Christmas movie that I can't believe there isn't a sequel.

A solid meh. A few good parts, but predictable and blah.

This is a film that truly brings out the Christmas spirit. It's not a very long film with just over 90 minutes of content but it manages to pack in a lot of different emotions. Danny Devito and Mathew Broderick have a great on screen chemistry that contributes to the enjoyment of this fun family Christmas film.
