It has a lot of unknown oil terms and happenings on the rig that the viewer cannot comprehend. A lot of explosions but i didn't feel the tense throughout the last half hour. The role of BP was greatly undermined.

@great_vc This movie is a thriller, and actual deepsea drilling is no where near as it was depicted in the movie, although entertaining, it's not meant to be an accurate assessment of the events that ended with the catastrophic fire that sunk Deepwater Horizon. But as every adult should know, most movies are just fiction even when based on real historical events, if you are looking for the non-dramatized account of the facts you should look to journalistic documentary films on the subject.

@captainmarica Serious, are you positive you didn't post this comment under the wrong film. Director Peter Berg is one of the most underrated directors and he teamed up w/ Mark to make Lone Survivor. Now that film was AMAZING and is worthy of your comment. This was very weak in some areas and Lone Survivor was very close to the book; almost as great as it too. It was a film I was really looking forward to seeing and I have to say I found it to be overall a bit disappointing. The most angering thing about it all has to be the fact that this happened and from the very start of the film; if the Crew that had just landed or if there was some non partisan third party present w/ the authority to shut the project down if deemed unsafe to workers or the environment (which it clearly was) This disaster could and should have been prevented.

This is an amazing film and would recommend any one to watch this. This film managed to play with my emotions and at the end of the film when the credits started rolling and they showed you
the 11 that died from this accident
I did get tearful and generally felt sad that such a disaster happened.

No doubt, a great looking film documenting the events that led to one of the worst accidental oil spills in marine history. Director Peter Berg does an excellent job pacing the film with a palpable, mounting sense of tension with some stunning set pieces. Unfortunately the human aspect of the film resorts to cliches, stereotypes and lacks any real depth thus making the whole experience rather unmemorable despite its impressive cast.

Although it started off a bit slow and I had a hard time understanding some of the technical terms they were using, I really loved and was fascinated by Deepwater Horizon. I didn't know the story because when it happened I was pretty young and I think it's great that they tell this story through a movie so that the people who didn't know much about it understand it better and perhaps get that these "island" aren't so very great for our dear planet.

It was a very intense film and the acting was really good! I'd like to see Malk Wahlberg doing more of these kinds of movies because he is really great. Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez and Dylan O'Briend were amazing as well, although I felt like the one female character (Andrea) was a bit of a burned in the end, the acting was great. The explosions were so intense and beautifully made, it made me sit on the edge of my seat.

I really really recommend everyone to watch this movie because apart from it being a great movie it's also a learning experience.

Althougth this has a lot of technical terms going on in the dialogue you understand what was the reason for the catastrophe.

The last 15 min are emotionally intense and when I realised I was watching this on the exact day it happened 7 years ago I was shivering all over.

A tragic true story, but the film didn't engage me emotionally. Good performances, however, and a worthy testament to those who suffered because of the event.
The ending scene in the hotel really got to me. Part of me going into the film expected the basic hero of the story ending and film where it is all smiles but no this films tell it how it is, shows the real emotions and turmoil as they attempt to get out of the fire from all focal characters. Love this movie and i love the team of Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg
Peter Berg managed to really surprise me with Deepwater Horizon. It's probably one of the action movies I would rate the highest from 2016.

The story about Deepwater Horizon is a tragic story about corporate greed and human tragedy. The fact that we all know what the end result is makes Bergs job even better, as the challenge of that is one that not many directors manage to overcome.

Deepwater is on one side one hell of an action ride, but what impresses me more is the story and the way it shows us human courage and determination. I know there's probably some artistic freedom attached to some of this, but I know from firsthand experience that when faced with impossible odds, humans can be incredible...

The cast is excellent and has a huge part in making this movie as good as it is. There's really nothing bad to mention when it comes to the acting. I especially liked John Malkovich...he just makes shady characters shine.

In any case, Deepwater Horizon is a must see, and you should really watch it with the volume turned up, as the sound is amazing.
