Diego Maradona, a footballer I never have seen play live but seen enough of that he was unique. His World Cup goals against England, the way he carried Napoli, his antics during recent world cups. He was something else.

Asif Kapadia's 2 hour documentary about Maradona is a must watch for anyone. You'll never be bored. Is must have been something else to be in his shoes. To be seen as a god in Napels, I don't know if anyone could've stayed normal.

a great documentary, offers a great view inside the most important years of Maradona's Life.

Since he unfortunately passed away recently, i would say that this is a great watch if you want to understand why he was held to such high regard.

A solid documentary. Not great as it is uses broad brushstrokes to paint Diego's personality... I was not surprised to see it was the same director as 'Senna'.

Maradona deserves a 3/10 as a man as he's a simple guy who goes down the wrong road and never seems to want to turn back. Even the redemption scene at the end is a fleeting afterthought seemingly.

The documentary is a 7.5/10.

Maradona's footballing talent is 10/10 so whatever anyone thinks of the documentary, it's that which brings viewers in. His highlights reel is still as spectacular as ever.

7.5/10

I’ve problems with the documentaries which Asif Kapadia have made. They’re exploitative and lopsided,—as with Amy—schmaltzy,—as with Senna—and misguided—as with Supersonic.

I don’t like soccer particularly much. That’s strange of me saying, considering that a huge portion of my family on my dad’s side has worked in soccer for quite some time; I enjoy watching high-end matches, though, whenever I’m with somebody I hold dear and the match is engaging. It’s weird to say, but I missed hearing of the craft throughout the documentary: I wanted to hear more from his trainers, the people around him, etc. Consider the time invested in explaining his drug use and Camorrean connections…

I've written a lot more about this film here: https://niklasblog.com/?p=24587

Really good to watch. Even made my England fan mate change his opinion and give respect to this great player.

A good docu about arguably the best footballer in the history of football. Based on his life in Napels, where he had his biggest successes but also fell in to ruin with his drug habit and the pressures of fame, the emphasis is not on his greatest talent, football, but his biggest weaknesses, life off the pitch.
Made by Asif Kapadia, the director of Amy, Senna, Mindhunter, etc...
