This movie was a complete waste of Cage and DaFoe's talent. And my time.

I’ll give it credit, it consistently got worse as it went on. Only redeeming quality is being from Cleveland I knew a lot of the locations.

"We're family"

lol what?

Paul Schrader who recently made 'First Reformed', which I've heard nothing but great things about, somehow forgot to write and direct when it came to this movie.

An ultraviolent and vulgar dark comedy, Dog Eat Dog is an ugly mess. The story follows a group of smalltime Cleveland gangsters who try for a big score with a kidnapping, but things all fall apart. Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe lead the cast, but their performances aren’t very good (Dafoe is particularly horrendous). And the directing is terrible, as none of the stylistic choices work, and the sets look cheap. Additionally, the sex and violence are incredibly gratuitous and makes the film feel dirty. Complete garbage, Dog Eat Dog is a pointless waste of time.

The film had its moments but was ultimately a little too ugly and weird to really hit home. Great Bogart impersonation by Cage, though!

Interesting, but ultimately fairly forgettable heist/gangster movie. It's ballsy, and takes some interesting risks most don't, but in the end it's a little too grim and with no redeemable characters to follow it's hard to recommend it. Willem Dafoe is great in it though.

Kind of disapointing... Storyline was weak. This wasn't Nick Cage's best but Willem Defoe's performance had it's moments. If you are a fan of "Wild at Heart" or even "Raising Arizona", this movie tries to recapture that kind of chemistry but I felt they didn't get there. Sad because I love both these actors.
