It lived up to the series, and I may have liked it better since it didn’t try to be overly dramatic.

I swear I would watch this show until their future generations are in the year 3000, I am so invested.

Love the journey. The set. The wardrobe. The acting. The laughs. The absolutely heartbreak. I love it all.

I was anticipating Barrows kiss, sadly only for our imagination. Although we needed to say goodbye to the most beloved actress, the movie left me with a great smile and melancholy.

Like a ventilator convention, because only the fans are gonna be interested in going.

Look, I knew I wasn't going to like this going in and it didn't disappoint. The worst CGI I've seen since 2012's Food Fight, a story line that was too mundane for the original TV series and a desperate play for our heart strings at the 11th hour (which is how long the film felt in the theater) means that only real Downton Abbotts will find anything inspiring in here.

This is perfect! And, I don’t say that often. Although I have always enjoyed the series, I was annoyed with the first movie because it went for cheap laughs by making Molesley a buffoon, which, I believe, lowered the respect for the character, we had grown to appreciate, and depreciated the quality of dialogue and story. No gross errors like that in this film. It carried mystery, beautiful character pieces, sparkling wit, stunning locations, grand cinematography, and endearing moments. I give this film an enthusiastic 10 (perfect) out of 10. [Period Drama]. Our theatre grossly underestimated the fandom of this franchise. Our afternoon showing, on this its opening day was packed and the poor staff were met with a monsoon wave of excited patrons seeking all the auxiliary amenities.

I'm so overwhelmed. It's always good to see again and live new moments with these characters, but this ending destroyed my heart in little pieces no matter how much I expected it.

Really can't complain about Downton Abbey. It's like having another slice of the cake you enjoy. I am left confused about the review that mentions cgi.

_**Downton Abbey: A New Era**_ shamelessly plays as a fan service. The plot is an excuse to bring every major characters back.

The plot, if there is one, is mashup of _**Singin' in the Rain**_ and send off for Violet (**Maggie Smith**). The former is a cliched mess, but our fondness for the cast helps it move forward. **Julian Fellowes** makes zero attempt to differentiate from a beloved classic.

The subplot for Violet could be far more interesting, but it takes a backseat to the main plot and suffer for it.

Thankfully, the cast is wonderful and I found myself enjoying the film despite lack of compelling plot.

I didn't care about the plot with the film crew. Lots of corny meta humor about actors and movie-making. Also it was a rip-off of Singin In the Rain.
It dragged.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this movie but I have one concern.

The story with Tom & Lucy was completely skipped and they went straight to a wedding. They failed to explain how Lucy’s mother was able to not just leave her the money, but also the estate which I would assume would have been left to whoever the heir to the “title” was.
How did she explain to society how she is leaving her maid all this money and a working estate that should have gone to a title holding member of the peerage.

Also, there were lots of Lords and Ladies present at Lucy & Tom’s wedding and since she was a maid and he was once a chauffeur, it would have been incredibly odd for there to have been so many high born people at the wedding of people so beneath them.
It looks like they have been accepted as members of the higher classes but how?

Did Lucy’s mother recognize her as her natural daughter? Did she legally adopt Lucy as her legal daughter & heir?
I feel like I missed a whole movie that explains Lucy’s metamorphosis from maid to upperclass heiress.

This seemed like a British Hallmark Special. It was too idyllic, overly clichéd and "they lived happily ever after".

I had not anticipated enjoying this movie that much. It was a delight and lived up to the tv show, which was already brilliant. It was so nice to see the whole cast reunited.
Obviously there is a lot packed into the story but it did not feel too much and generally it did not feel too long.
Not seeing Voilet in a possible future movie makes me very sad. So somehow I want another movie but then it will not have the same sass without her.
A great continuation of the Downton Abbey film series. The show really just works as well in film format as it does in TV format. One is immediately transferred back into the world of Downton as soon as Maggie Smith delivers her first hilarious lines. The end was quite emotional and impactful. It‘s going to be interesting to see if there will be another film. I would definitely welcome one.

I really hope this isn't another Christmas special. I don't understand why producers can't think of a way to make a reunion movie without being centered on a freaking holiday.

For fan of the TV series it may work, and the main vertical plot of the film shooting is interesting. However, for whoever is not aware of the series, the main plot is diluted in a lot of confusing subplots among the very rich set of characters, making the overall result more boring than it should have been.

@obione_tdg So you did not watch the 6 series (edit: seasons) or maybe the first movie, jump right into the second movie, and are now complaining that you don't know the characters?

@thelfensdrfer it is also true that, for a general theatrical release, they could have spent some time to recap a bit something about the character background.
