Dr. Terror's House of Horrors

I was pretty fired up to see this Amicus anthology featuring Christopher Lee Peter Cushing and Donald Sutherland. I wasn't disappointed by their performances particularly that of Lee who plays a pretentious art critic. Lee's segment as campy as it is is the only one with any staying power. It's quite a good little tale of revenge. The other stories are sub par especially the one about a jazz musician and a voodoo curse which is just about impossible to sit through. There was also a short tale of an evil vine that grows over a home trapping its inhabitants that is pretty entertaining. Overall though this movie is short on frights and feels pretty dated. This is a horror anthology, made up of five short stories that, by themselves, would not make a good feature. Added together, the math totals out to one very bad movie. I would have to call this a bad B-movie. The stories are just silly, and even the ones that are okay, rely on humor. The worst one has to do with voodoo jazz; it was more comedy than horror, and brought the already slow momentum to a halt. The obvious draw here is Lee, and Cushing, but don't be fooled, they aren't doing much here.
