Wow I gotta say this DBZ film is probably the first one to actually leave me feeling extremely disappointed. I don't watch these expecting masterpieces but I can't help but feel like it could've been so much more. Compared to the action of his first film Broly's action here is just kind of boring in my opinion. First let me just say that this is the same Broly that was practically toying with all 4 super saiyans from the Cell saga...and now you expect me to believe that Videl, Goten and Trunks (**Kid** Trunks btw) can take a clean hit from Broly and actually survive it? I blame the dumbed down action all on the fact that the protagonists are two kids to be honest. Thanks to fact that he spends about 3/4 of the movie fighting Goten and Trunks, his brutality is toned down exponentially, which is exactly what made him so great in the first place. Since I am a huge fan of the original Dragon Ball I tend to love Dragon Ball humor but with this film all the humor just feels so out of place, his 1st appearance was incredibly serious and now we're making jokes around him? It gets a bit better once Gohan arrives but honestly not by much, it still doesn't come close to reaching the levels the 1st film did.

This movie also shot down any possible chance of expanding the little personality that Broly had in the first movie by literally turning into the Savage Hulk by having 99% of his dialogue only be him yelling a name. I actually believe you could have changed Broly to being any other villain and it actually would not have changed anything. In my opinion the biggest missed opportunity here was not having Vegeta around to get a rematch with Broly, it would've been great to see him possibly redeem himself after the humiliation he experienced in the 1st film. The way Broly is defeated this time is a lot better than it was previously but that doesn't come close to saving this film.

Despite all that I still have to admit the animation is top notch, some of the best I've seen in the DB franchise.

Gosh, This was really a letdown compared to the first Broly film.

The first two-thirds of the movie consist of a bunch of slapstick gags and various comedic moments involving Broly chasing after Trunks and Goten. There's gags here that feel like they were pulled directly out of Looney Tunes, and it all just feel incredibly out of place for Dragon Ball Z. Not to mention, Broly isn't taken very seriously during any of this, making him appear less like a threat and more just like a joke who keeps shouting "kakkarot!" as though it's the only thing he can say.

After Gohan enters the picture in the last third of the movie, we finally get some decent action scenes, but it's fairly short lived, and even then, these action scenes are nowhere near as exciting as the scenes from the first Broly film. In fact, I found many of the fight sequences here to feel kind of bland in comparison.

There's a couple of memorable shots in this part of the movie, however... such as when Broly unleashes a massive amount of energy and releases wave after wave of different colored energy bursting from his body, or when Gohan, Goten, and Goku are all firing Kamehameha waves next to each other, essentially giving us a memorable "three generations" kamehameha. However, you still have to slog through everything else to get to these shots, so their inclusion really doesn't make up for the lackluster quality of the rest of the film.

I will say that it gets a slightly higher score than I otherwise would have given it due to the high quality of the animation. However, I'd only recommend this to completionists... those who want to watch every Dragon Ball Z film. Everyone else would be better off skipping it.
