Leave it to Bulma's dumb mouth to end up helping the villain...

Unlike Tree of Might this film's action actually feels fast paced while still feeling that the action scenes are longer than 20 seconds. Everyone gets to face an entire army, we even get to see Chi-Chi get it on the action. Gohan and Piccolo fight as the father and son that they are for a bit. The only one that never gets any respect is Krillin, he's just tossed aside the moment he enters the battle. The fight with Lord Slug is very well animated feeling quite fluid from start to end. During that fight we get this memorable "Pseudo-Super Saiyan" moment, strangely instead of relying on this form to defeat the villain we just get the Spirit Bomb again, kind of makes you wonder what was the point of the new form then...Overall this was quite a fun DBZ film I'd even say it probably has the most the most action out of the first 4 films, strangely enough there was barely any humor in it. I still love the fact that in the films Goku's friends are still of help to him (except Krillin).

Lord Slug is set up as a very evil individual killing his own men for just saying something wrong. As a kid the reveal as to what he really is was actually quite a surprise, nowadays every fan of DBZ will see the reveal coming though. Unfortunately his backstory actually feels like they copy and pasted Demon King Piccolo and he's a space pirate, so they just combined Piccolo Sr. with Turles from the last movie. His fight scenes were especially brutal thanks to the emphasis they put on his strength, you can almost feel every punch he lands when you see it. Slug's henchmen aren't really that bad but they're not great in my opinion, they're just generic, it's the simple Big Brute/Small Dwarf/Pretty Boy trio we've always seen, but at least their battles with Gohan and Piccolo are entertaining.

I gotta say what Gohan ends up doing to hurt the villain near the end is incredibly stupid....lol I don't know how anyone wrote that down and actually decided it was a good idea. Instead of tearing off his ears Piccolo should have gone into his giant form to battle Lord Slug. A giant Namekian Kaiju fight would've been magnificently epic but it's just a big missed opportunity.
