I was excited for this one, and I wanted to love it, but it just didn't work for me. Thomasin is great, but it just felt... lacking.

There is a moment when Eileen is really onto something. However, that moment is never fully developed. The idea is so great, but as is, the film as a whole underwhelms.

I don't know the source material but judging by the fact that both the novel and screenplay where written by Otessa Moshfegh, who is also listed as a producer, I guess the movie is pretty much whatever the creative vision was. I liked the first two thirds and also the twist, but the ending just didn't click with me. I also really enjoyed how authentic 60s the movie felt. The looks, the aspect ratio, grain, etc. Great camera work overall.

i actually really liked how the film ended! anyone who feels it was a little incomplete or abrupt should check out the plot summary to the book, it obviously has some spoilers for where the plots diverge but i think the changes make sense for the change in media format. also think it's a fun fact that the screenplay was adapted by the author and her husband together!

Felt like a poor man's Carol until it just went off track and never quite recovered. Whatever it was trying to achieve it didn't get there for me at all.

I was absolutely loving this movie for the first hour. Thomasin Mckenzie showed a gear that I didn't know she had, and Anne Hathaway was completely believable in her role (and in my opinion, never better). I suppose we should have seen the end coming, but for some reason it didn't work for me. I thought it was true to the direction of the story... I still felt unfulfilled.

I was really enjoying it as a take on Persona/Carol until it took a different turn for the third act.

An abstract mood board of feminist themes and frenetic coming-of-age, Eileen is a watercolour of a movie, its message largely translucent and undefined but still a captivating pleasure to look at. It's not scared to show the messy, uncensored side of early, maturing womanhood that largely gets overlooked or flatly repressed by most media, but outside of this illuminating lens, it still feels a little vague and lacking cohesion. Maybe I've missed the point, maybe this just isn't for me; it was still enjoyable to see Thomasin and Anne put in such captivating performances in such an aesthetically pleasing 60s homage. To derivatively compare this to other movies: Carol meets Last Night In Soho with a more grounded, dare I say gritty, aesthetic. Enjoyable, but probably not as good as I was expecting.

The movie ends without finishing the story which is a let down. Really was liking everything I was seeing. Both actresses did a great job. Loved the twist, just wish the film coulda got across the finish line.

Simple, superficial, but with notes of Hitchcock and De Palma, pretending to be a film noir. About the fact that the main thing is freedom. And how to live, the person himself decides. What are the ways of this and mistakes. About love, which gives hope, and maybe ruin. About the price of getting rid of the daily routine. Pleasant aftertaste

Interesting character study. Quite boring though, I felt like it could have been more fleshed out.
