Enter the Void. This is definitely one of the most original movies I've ever seen. The entire movie is like one giant trip.

You experience the world through the eyes of drug dealer who gets killed, and after he dies, you wander the Earth as his soul, watching the drama unfold between the characters whose lives were affected by this tragedy. The actinng from the main character and Paz de la Huerta were great as well as many of the supporting actors.

The cinematography was fantastic with many shots that made me think "How in the hell did they accomplish that?" Time and effort was definitely put into this movie to make it as fluid and trippy as possible. I have to of course talk about the use of colors in this movie. The director did a great job to use color as much as possible to not only contrast the situation the characters were in but to also match with the emotions being felt and the create a sort of ethereal vibe to the entire movie. Each choice the director made for color was meaningful and very welcomed on my part.

It also has one of the best opening credits of any movie ever. This is a must see.

Enter the Void is not a film set out to entertain nor make you feel at ease with yourself and your surroundings. It has quite revolting and daunting imagery; the cinematography feeling nothing other than bizarre, fantastical, perverted and ominous. It’s a shock! Definitely an extreme replica of a psychedelic trip. You never get a break from feeling uncomfortable staring at this “life after death” theme occurring right before your eyes. But did I enjoy the film? First of, Gaspar Noé is an incredible director often challenging what film is set out to be; creating remarkable twists to his work quite often. Enter the Void definitely felt like a drug experience: it’s not a film set out to be listened to and watched but felt much more like music is supposed to be felt through your body too, impacting your emotions. It’s never just about the listening. It’s a physical and emotional experience. I gotta say though quite intelligent, really making me feel that impact psychedelic drugs can take on you, this film was quite a stretch making it at times extremely dull to watch. I recommend anyone who is questioning watching this to do so, yes, please. However don’t go into it expecting to be entertained. I almost feel like this is a film that could be put out at an art exhibition, having its audio play as we look around the room of the other arts would be really interesting to me. Watching the entire thing put together for 3 hours is a bit too much for me to rewatch. But it definitely is in a way very amazing cinema. Just a different kind of amazing.

The tragic demise of a young drug dealer who, after witnessing his life flash before his eyes, embarks on a tour through the streets of Kabukicho, spying on the aftermath of his passing while seeking an opportunity for reincarnation.

I must confess that I remembered the film as a much more psychedelic spectacle and a significantly less melancholic and depressing experience. Perhaps the weight of age on my shoulders is helping me feel the void more?

The underlying plot, albeit fragmented and worth less than twenty minutes, is subordinate to its portrayal onscreen—a masterful fusion of immersive subjective long takes, evocative glimpses into the protagonist's past from behind his shoulders, and swirling shots that seamlessly oscillate between arthouse and filth exploitation. Despite the janky CG used for the computer-generated aerial perspectives and wide-angle shots, the overall visual presentation continues to feel innovative and impactful, continually capturing the viewer's attention.

Nonetheless, the latter half of the film languishes in its excessive length, diluting the overall impact of the experience. Furthermore, the way the protagonist meets his demise feels a little far-fetched, if not outright ridiculous - although it could all be interpreted as a massive drug-induced hallucination under the influence of the book borrowed from the French guy. Not that it matters.
