This is a thinking movie with superb performances. People who stumbled upon it,being misled to believe it about sisters on an adventure vacation in Europe, were justly disappointed (and the ratings reflect that). I watch Alicia Vikander to see great acting, and, knowing it was the first project she chose for her fledgling production company, I expected wide ranging emotional scope, which it delivers. Her cast seems almost handpicked for the best of the best (Alicia, Eva Green, Charlotte Rampling, Charles Dance, Adrian Lester...). The topic is controversial, complex and eventually one we must all face. People who put their trust in Jesus, even with this matter (maybe, especially with this matter) will experience it differently than those portrayed in this film. The pace is slow. There seems to be a directorial choice to let the emotional journey set the pace, which worked on the whole but could have been fine tuned in places. The cinematography has some beautiful moments. As a whole I would rate the film a 7 (good), but in terms of performances it is a 9 (superb), out of 10. [Thinking Emotional Journey]

Euphoria? The film made me feel sad, although there's nothing inherently wrong with that. We must all face our mortality, and if it encourages us to speak to and spend time with those we love, then that's for the better. Perhaps this film will encourage you to do so.

A well-written, quiet film about two sisters going through a heart-breaking decision, and the past difficulties they've had to overcome to get where they are. This was the first film chosen by Vikander's new production company, and it's a fine, well-acted effort. Makes you think.
