Chris Hemsworth would give John Wick a run for his money.

@pcliff069 I argue this was WAY better then John Wick, having only seen the 1st one which felt remarkably average to me.

07/10.

This is a cliche-filed solid action movie with crazy gunfight sequences. It lacks a good narrative but the thrilling action makes up for it.

If you are looking for nuance there are tons of Dramas out there. It is not trying to be one of those films. This is an action movie as advertised.

@addaks Agreed, however you should rate a movie based on its genre, no? Comparing to dramas, action always loses in my opinion. I think, compared with other action movies, this deserves at least a 7 as you`ve stated, but I gave it a 8 based on that continuous shot (not the best like the first Kingsmen, however quite good) and some twists concerning the matter that the MC isn`t your typical guns blazing "[insert nation here, usually american] hero". The characters here can be seen getting extremely hurt and the direction shows it rather than ignores it or basically makes them bullet proof or beyond resistant. He is just a mercenary who had a damaged past, a cliched one, but this was still better compared with Underground 6 or those Statham action series "The Transporter".

@jlucascaraujo Well put. And yeah I agree this is definitely miles better than 6 Underground.

@jlucascaraujo The continuous shot was probably the highlight of the movie, at least it was for me. It looked inspired by (or at least reminded me of) Children of Men. So if you ask me (not that anybody did): on a scale of Undergroud 6 - Children of men, this can be put comfortably in the middle of the two.

If you rate a movie on it's genre alone, this also gives problems. It makes comparing movies from different genre difficult (so things like best-of lists lose value, not saying they have any to begin with but that's a different topic), or difficulties rating mixed genre (romcom, comedy action, scifi-horror etc.) or genre transcending movies for example. I think how to best rate a movie depends on what the purpose is of the person who is doing it, and for whom he/she is doing it.
In my opinion, rating a movie can only be done for what it is, and a number alone will never be fully representative. Good thing we have the possibility to use text to give context to a rating.
And last but not least, in the end it will still be a subjective value that can be at best a guideline for others and at worse completely useless for anyone.

Much better than 6 Underground which was all fine action and no plot. A plus is when you have a good cast, nice locations and fine action, and no Michael Bay.
I wouldn’t mind seeing more Tyler Rake movies. Hemsworth kicks ass as him. It’s probably his best role next to Thor. He takes on many at once in John Wick like fashion.

Directed by long time Marvel stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave, this is what a Michael Bay movie with a competent director would look like. Still has some shortcomings as a movie, but the actual cinematography/camerawork highlights a substantial difference in Bay's inability to frame a scene and properly stress importance.

I would love to see some more fleshed out characters and something beyond just the action, but it's well executed for it is.

I still don’t understand why
the Indian ex-special-force who is pretty skilled didn’t try to extract the boy on his own. Hiring a third party then piss them off by not paying them is a bit stupid.
Loved the camera work and the numerous fist and gun fight scenes. The
slap on the face
of the child-soldier was hilarious :joy:.

I didn’t care too much about the
ex-wife and the sick then dead boy backstory. Why are these kind of character always half-alcoholic half-suicidal because they lost a member of their family?!?
All in all an entertaining action movie if you don’t pay too much attention to the script and the use of many cliché .

I guess he didn’t have the money to assemble a team to get the kid out. His best chance was to surprise attack and get the kid from people that would not expect that approach and then run.

Surprisingly good for an action flick. It does not avoid cliches but compensates with action scenes and good camera works. And it’s not boring. Solid Netflix choice for a Friday night ;)

Pretty cool action-packed movie. I haven't heard about this movie but I'm grateful I watched it and I was really surprised. The action is pretty cool, the camera is awesome - long no-cut shots, it looks really amazing. You can't expect some interesting plot here. It's just ordinary - ex-marine rescues someone - we saw it many times but it's filmed the way that makes it original. Do you like Chris? Do you like action? Go for it. You won't be dissapointed.

If this didn't star Chris Hemsworth, or had a director who doesn’t know what he's doing behind the camera, this would be your average Jason Statham movie.
In other words: it fails to make you care on any level besides the action sequences.
If that's enough for you, then this movie does everything what you want it to do very well.
I personally can't recommend a movie with both a generic plot, and empty shells of characters on top of that.

5/10

I was really impressed by this movie. Contrary to popular comic book movie belief - Chris Hemsworth is a really great actor and so I enjoyed watching him fill out another role. And the talented & gorgeous Golshifteh Farahani is such a breath of fresh air in the hollywood machine. I hope she makes more American movies.

The story is not as cliché-dependent as some action movies can be so that was refreshing. There was the oft-used "_friend betrays main character_" troupe but that was really it. The combat-choreography is some of the best I've seen since the _**John Wick**_ franchise.
