Anything Blumhouse is a must-watch in our house. This however was pretty disappointing. I saw the cast-list and immediately jumped on board. The idea of an island that promises everything you've dreamed off and turns nightmare-ish fast sparked interest too. But then...
The movie starts out good. Four strangers arrive on the island and the action starts quickly for most, a little slower for some. And then they throw in the mystical energy of the island, something that reminded me of Lost. A bad version of Lost. The island demands for each person that it grants a dream to that they 'play it out'. It even has the creepy underground maze like caves that lead to a energyball in the middle of it. Yuck, cliché. Of course it also plays out that these strangers aren't actually strangers, or at least, they all had a part to play in the accidental fire that caused a guy to die. AND the kicker, one of the four strangers - Lucy Hale's Melanie a.k.a psycho stalker freak - is pulling the strings - with the island of course, duh - as a revenge plan because the guy that died in the fire was her.... well what was he? They went on one date and she reallllllyyyyy liked him.

So the thing is, this movie could have been good. Strip away the mystical energy of the island and make it just a thriller of four strangers lured to an island with the promise of their dreams being turned into reality only to arrive there and find out they are part of a sadistic game by one of their own would've been enough. Melanie could've been the crazed girl who got one too many trauma's and went off the deep end, hungry for vengeance. She could've set the whole thing up and it would've been a pretty enjoyable thriller. Still very predictable and done before but it would've been better than this bullcrap of literal fantasy of an island with power water.
So this is probably the first Blumhouse movie that I couldn't stand.
