So, this was really only a film that I watched as a joke, as me and my friend have just been like... doing memes on Fat Albert lately. In the midst of all this, I decided to finally give it a watch. And it was.... slightly better than I expected?

I mean... don't get me wrong, it's still a painfully average early 2000's film that takes an old property and modernizes it. But unlike say, The Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks, oddly enough this does Fat Albert much better justice than those films did with their respective properties. Now, looking back, the original Fat Albert really hasn't aged well, recent controversies with Bill Cosby aside. It's pretty standard 70's Saturday morning cartoon schlock. This movie, however, updates the animation to downright beautiful levels (which makes sense considering that the people who animated the Genie in Aladdin animated the animated sections of this movie). However, the animated sections are very seldom, most likely as a way to save money. The Cosby Kids/Fat Albert himself are all portrayed well, and some of the little jokes got a fair snicker out of me by the end.

Now, for everything else. This is by no means a perfect movie, or really a good one. It's just... average and forgettable. The live action non-Fat Albert characters are pretty damn one-note and forgettable. The jokes about "oh ho they're in the real world" are pretty standard and lame, and it just stinks of early 2000's cliches. I can't really find it in me to really rant about it, however, because it's all pretty inoffensive to be honest.

Overall a 6/10
