This might be one of the few found-footage movies where characters actually have some development... not much or especially great but it's something. Along with some good scenes and a sinister end this turned out a lot better than expected and the poster suggests.

A slow burn found footage folk horror that leads to a genuinely claustrophobic climax. It shows how effective the found footage format can be if there's good reasoning behind it and good, well drawn characters making decisions that make sense within the context of the story. The film is highlighted by the balance between horror and humor of the lead characters. This one works well due to its leads. Their chemistry is highly entertaining and the POV cameras focusing on their reaction heightens it. Although the setup is essentially nothing original, it benefits from a good cast of actors, the execution works and manages to rise it above mediocrity and generate some genuine unease.

Found footage is usually hit or strong miss for me, but this one was a strong hit! As soon as the guys get to the church you get an intense feeling of dread though the rest of the movie. And that ending... If you've never seen this one, go in as blind as possible because the ending is truly an excellent and horrifying payoff.

Like a fort made out of sofa cushions and bedsheets, this is pretty cheap but still kinda fun.

Despite the lack of any real entity to focus our fear on, absence of structure to pull us along and a shortage of acting skills where necessary, this remains a found footage film and I haven't seen a bad one of those yet...

thank you to the girl at barnes & noble who recommended this to me because what feels like your average cliché found footage film is actually a sneaky folk horror with a horrific and extremely claustrophobic ending sequence

The use of "datamoshing" to glitch out the digital video recording, as supernatural elements appear, was really cool. More found footage movies should make use of this data corruption technique instead of the typical glitchy lines and skipping frames. The atmosphere was kinda spooky and tense, and the, uhh, ending... was interesting.

It's just too bad that the town and it's people didn't make enough of an appearance, neither were any of the main characters really interesting. There wasn't really a pay off since there's almost no character development. I was expecting certain characters to be like, "I was wrong about everything." but that never happened. Everyone is very stubborn in their beliefs and it's really annoying. Too much reliance on teleporting "ghosts" for my tastes, it was kinda lazy, not enough on-screen deaths.

A film that had a very good horror atmosphere and was great in this respect. Sometimes it froze in the back, but that's all this film has to offer. The end of the film was wrong and de facto the whole film sent to the bottom. We didn't know at all what it cost so far and how it would turn out, except that the main characters of the film were probably fires. The film lacked a revelation or something to scare you. It's a huge pity because it could have been a very good and high-quality film, I rather rank it among the average, but with a very good horror atmosphere, which many horror films lack.

Pretty average, run of the mill horror fare once it gets going which continues for most of the film. The story gets interesting much too near the end for anything to really come of it. There's a "crescendo" into the finale which was probably the most thrilling part which leads into one of the most ludicrous imaginings of a climactic scene that I can recall watching and utterly ruined a film that was already on shaky ground.

This is one of the few effective found footage horror films that I've seen. It has a few flaws such as some slightly cheesy acting (although it is good for the most part) and some predictable jump scares. But the sense of dread and fear that this film provoked in me definitely makes up for those flaws. Also a surprising lack of shaky cam considering the track record of the genre. If you're looking for an effectively creepy and mostly jumpscare-free horror film then this is for you!

Thought I'd give this a go based on the good reviews but found the usual found footage issues - bad acting, bad pacing and predictable plot. I have to admit I couldn't make it to the end but unless this turned brilliant in the last 20 minutes this was a complete waste of my time.
