An action movie, but a thoughtful one, with important social commentary on the rights and respect of individuals, corruption, and honoring those who sacrifice for society. Sad that the subsequent Rambo movies turned into mindless pro-government action flick.

Great movie, a very solid action flick! Stallone plays his part of the haunted Vietnam vet, who doesn't know how to cope with civilian life, very well. If the supporting actors (especially Trautman and Teasel) had been chosen more carefully (or if they had played their roles a little better) the flick would have been even better!

From the stage, to the silver screen - Brian Dennehy is the type of talent that comes once in a life time.

He played a hand full of roles. Larger than life, but still brilliant.

I first saw him in 'First Blood'. He and Stallone made that film a classic.

When a small-town sheriff arrests a drifter for vagrancy, who turns out to be a decorated war hero, he ends up starting a war that he might not be able to win. Sylvester Stallone gives traumatized Vietnam veteran John Rambo real depth and emotion; delivering one of his best character performances. And, Brian Dennehy and Richard Crenna are also extraordinarily good, and are able to heighten the drama and add moral ambiguity to their characters. Dark and gritty, First Blood challenges the audience and addresses some important social issues that are still relevant today.

This is so much more than a mindless action flick. It's not just about John Rambo running around laying mayhem. Unfortunately he was later reduced to just that. [spoiler] I'm still covinced the alternate ending would have been the way to go but according to Stalone it backfired at a test screening so they re-shot the end to the released version. [/spoiler]. The book this is based on is really recommendable.
And I think especially the finale scenes showed that Stallone could be a convincing actor which he later got seldom chance to prove. I have seen this one probably close to ten times now and I still can enjoy it very much.

It's a brutal and often bleak exploration of the human cost of war. However, it's also a powerful and thought-provoking film that refuses to shy away from difficult questions.

Ok cool but why did he get arrested in the first place?

Was a 10/10 in my youth and still a 10/10 today. One of the greatest action films ever.

A perfect action film. Hardly an action movie, really. More of a drama. A perfect dramatic telling of the life and struggle of an American veteran who has returned home. Where the real war is.

If you ever want to explain modern America to somebody, show them this film. It's all you need to understand.

First time watching it. Solid action film, well done and probably Stallones best performance of his career.

"Back there I could fly a gunship, I could drive a tank, I was in charge of million dollar equipment, back here I can't even hold a job *parking cars*!"

The speech Stallone gives at the end still gives me goosebumps. It is one of his most memorable scenes for me. He acts it so well. Something he is not known for.

Anyway First Blood is one of the best action movies of all time and inspired a lot of films and gave Stallone another career lasting character to play. Even though the later movies became bloodier and bloodier I love the fact that in this one Rambo isn't out to kill even though we have these asshole cops after him. They are even more annoying that the baddies in the later films right?

First Blood is a must watch for everyone and will never fail to entertain me on a rewatch.

Traditional action film where a group of not so skilled policemen try to catch the fugitive. Interesting the protagonist background, even if on the same theme I preferred The Deer Hunter of some years earlier.
