Mia is a 15 year old girl that has the dream of becoming a dancer. She lives in a complicated neighborhood in London with her mother and her little sister. Mia is angry with the world, her mother constantly likes to remember her that she doesn't care about her, she doesn't go to school, she doesn't have many friends, she is always looking for some trouble. Mia is a lost girl in the world looking for some safety and happiness in her life.

I didn't know anything about this film's story before I watched it but I wanted to check it because Michael Fassbender was in it and he always provide us great performances and this was another great one.
Katie Jarvis, who plays Mia, had a wonderful and intense performance and all of the other performances are very believable as well. I would like to mention the little girl who plays Mia's sister, she was great!

Fish Tank is not the usual teenage drama that we are used to. Instead of that, it really can show us the reality of the troubled and complicated life of many teenagers living in the same conditions as Mia.

It may start out as your average lower class drama, but it turns into something special after a while. It may be uncomfortable to watch at times, but it makes this a very intense movie.

So, this film was pretty obviously more than a little inspired by 1961's A Taste of Honey. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's close enough in some aspects that I'm surprised I haven't seen any acknowledgement of it beyond comparisons on a thematic or surface level.

I've seen this movie before. Rather, I've seen bits and pieces of this movie many times over. After all, it's hard to do anything new in the coming-of-age genre. If you threw An Education (fantastic film), Cemetery Junction (underrated Ricky Gervais film) and The Florida Project into a blender you'd have this movie.

This film was like all of those films but it wasn't any of those films. I felt like I was watching a great drama and not just a coming-of-age film. It really had a great depth to it and it continued to surprise me as it went along. It was on many "best of" lists and I can see why.

A tale of a conflicted daughter that finds more on her troubled mother's new boyfriend and that was not expected. Aside from her dreams to become b-girl dancer there's her coming-of-age. A movie with sensitivity, wise and a touch for the heart. Don't miss this!
