A real 1980s vibe. Nice music used to play with your emotions. Excellent filmography esp the dance moves.

Even though I had never seen "Flashdance" before, the film felt very familiar to me. That's certainly because the key moments have all been parodied thousands of times. And the main reason is that the dance sequences are fantastic. For a dance film, these are solid foundations. And the music video look, which was fresh at the time, is also appealing. Furthermore, the 80s soundtrack is phenomenal, and Jennifer Beals is a really strong lead. She is incredibly charismatic and has the perfect look.

Unfortunately, the romance part didn't work for me at all, which on the one hand is due to the not-too-strong chemistry between Beals and her co-star Michael Nouri and on the other hand to a few red flags that are a bit disturbing from today's point of view. But it couldn't really drag me down; all in all, the film is a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of dance films anyway, and "Flashdance" definitely ranks in the upper quality range.

The only appeal of this movie is the music video to Irene Cara's Flashdance... Oh What A Feeling. And I gotta tell you, the music video is enough.

I appreciate a coming-of-age story of an 18-year-old stripper-dancer-construction worker pursuing her dream of being a dancer. But the erotic romance of an older co-worker and sexy pizza-loving part-time-stripper doesn't have much depth or loveability to it. And when she sees him with some blonde, throws rocks at his window, realizes that she was his ex, and reconciles, nothing is done. Nothing happened.

There's no charm in watching Alex go from telling a priest that she's thinking about sex to saying "i f***** his brains out" when his ex-wife shows up. If you wanna watch awesome sex talk at the dinner table, go watch When Harry Met Sally.

The message is to pursue your dreams, and to try not to throw rocks at your f*** buddy's window because that may be a mistake.

None of the characters are love-able. As much as I appreciate the positive intention of exploring the pursuit of one's dreams, experiencing trial and error, exploring multiple facets of life, this coming-of-age drama lacks any depth to it.

“She’s a maniac, maniac on the floor...” Jennifer Beals stars in the ‘80s classic Flashdance. The story follows a steel-mill worker named Alex who moonlights as an exotic dancer but dreams of joining a professional ballet company. The dance choreography is especially good, and adds a lot of energy and excitement to the film. And the soundtrack is amazing, features such pop hits as “Gloria,” “What A Feeling,” and “Maniac.” Fun and charming, Flashdance is a little cheesy, but has a lot of heart.
