This is a smart sci-fi movie and the look of the film is awesome.

Great science fiction classic that continues as well as ever. I'm still surprised to see Leslie Nielsen play a serious role

Pretty much indistinguishable from an early episode of Star Trek.

This movie plays like an episode of the original Star Trek series. It was entertaining and kept me engaged. One thing I will say is that watching some of these old movies from the 50s and 60s, it’s alarming at how handsy and rapey the male roles are in some of them. I just watched Carnival of Souls yesterday and the guy in that one was cringe worthy too. After one of the characters in this was trying to take full advantage of the young woman in this, the commander tells her something along the lines of “you would have been asking for it for dressing the way you did”…I always thought that women were supposed to be treated like ladies and that men behaved like gentlemen in this era, especially in the movies. Maybe it’s this genre. Anyway, it was a decent watch, and I can tell it probably inspired future filmmakers. I know it inspired one of my favorite bands, Monster Magnet. They have a bonus song on some versions of one of their albums called Forbidden Planet, it’s a bunch of spaceship sounds and effects. Some album art of theirs is similar to the movie too.

I enjoyed the movie. It has all the quirks and charm typical to sci-fi from that period including the unintentionally comical costume and special effects. Don't let that fool you though, the story is well written for sure if you ignore some very minor "why did they do this" moments designed to advance the plot. I would say the strength of the movie is the meaning that lies in the story and is revealed at the end.

A sci-fi classic for a reason. While it may not have aged well to modern audiences, it has a solid message and great aesthetic. A science fiction update of Shakespeare...? how can you not like it? I see too how Robbie the Robot caught on with audiences soo much back in the day. Who wouldn't want one?

This is easily one of the most influential sci fi films to ever be released. Its ambitious but still simple and it creates several concepts that would be used in sci fi movies for years to come. Forbidden Planet really is one of those films that modern Hollywood owes its life to.
