Sequel to the classic 1961 British war film The Guns of Navarone and is loosely based on the novel by Alistair MacLean directed by Guy Hamilton (one of my favourite Bond directors, having directed Goldfinger, he actually turned down the offer to direct Dr.No). Here we see the main roles being played by Robert Shaw and Edward Fox (sadly no return from The Guns of Navarone stars Gregory Peck and David Niven) but Shaw and Fox do a good job of portraying the heroes of the first movie. We also see Harrison Ford and the beautiful Barbara Bach co-star. Cinematography is what you expect from Christopher Challis (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) if you grew up like me watching old movies round your grandads on a Sunday afternoon. This movie holds up pretty well, but sadly I couldn't find the restored version of the film which is 126mins unlike the 118mins of the original. In truth most kids nowadays wouldn’t give the time of day to watch and appreciate the old school film making or the cinematography.
