Eric Bana's acting is pretty poor to start off with. Very much in his Comedy Company style. But stick with it. He very quickly re-learns how to act as the movie progresses and after a short time it's back to being good. The previous movie (The Dry (2021)) felt like it stretched on and wasn't really anything special until the 3rd act, where it picked up massively. This movie, fantastic from the start. It really draws you in much earlier and gets you obsessed with what's going on and all the characters involved in it. I absolutely loved it and I'm very highly recommending everyone give it a watch.

It's hard to make a sequel as strong as its predecessor, however, it did not disappoint nonetheless. This movie has just as many webs and twists as the first one, and I do enjoy the layered storytelling they incorporate in this series. I will always support Aussie made productions - we definitely need more of them! Aaron Falk kind of feels like our own Aussie Poirot sometimes, with his own personal connections to his cases. Unravelling the mystery is almost as interesting as piecing together Falk's history.

Film 29 of 2024 (Aim 300): A slight step down from the fantastic The Dry, but this series of films, based around the Jane Harper trilogy, continues to deliver excellent Australian fare (which can be hit or miss). The writing is definitely weaker in this film, with one character spitting exposition every time they're on screen. The tension and reveal also fall a bit flat. The film is saved by some excellent direction, the lead of Eric Bana and an lingering score full of dread. Probably won't be in the top 10 films I watch this year, but a good start nonetheless.
