This is probably the most charming character study movie I've ever seen; it really is delightful!

I agree that Greta Gerwig did an amazing job and really made Frances playful and sincere and sweet. The other actors were excellent as well.

The pacing of this movie also really stood out as exceptional.. there were so many fantastic little scenes sprinkled throughout the movie of her just interacting with someone or doing something simple, that really fleshed her out and gave both her and the audience time to process everything.

The soundtrack was used really well too. It was just a fun and wonderful movie all around :)

I couldn't agree more. All the characters were beautifully flawed in their own way. Frances was incredibly charming but never in an unreal way.

Ahoy sexy!

This is that kind of a film that left me with a huge smile on my face. Just delightful!

Frances Ha is a lovely little indie film mostly about growing up. Frances is a very unique and honest girl, she tries to keep things in her life together and she wants to be a dancer but she not seems to find some stability in life. She is also very immature sometimes and that does not help too. So, we follow her journey in New York where she is trying to pursuit her dreams while other things are happening between the lines.

It's funny, touching and honest. Beautifully shot in black in white giving it an even more charming look.

Greta Gerwig is just brilliant! She really shines in this film with such a natural performance and I know that from this day forward I will always look at her and remember Frances. I guess I just love an awkward character like her.

Wow. This was, for reasons I cannot quite explain, horribly boring - and the characters are all jerks. I actually turned it off after some 45 minutes, because it only made me annoyed. Too bad.

@nakesdotter Finally someone saw through this movie's pseudo-intellectual, artsy pretentious black & white, boring bullshit! All characters are fucking jerks, yeah! And bland too. Frances is an annoying compulsive liar, whiny womanchild, who's not strong at all and doesn't make you feel for her, or cheer for her. The acting was nothing much, felt forced at some points. The score feels off, the plot is absolutely useless, actually there isn't much of a plot. The journey this movie supposedly does from A to B, is unexplained, and doesn't feel earned at all. And the fucking ending? Like that was it? 1h30 of my life wasted on this hipster-millenial ego stroke, no wonder they love it so much, this movie that really is about nothing and it's black and white for the sake of being black and white... BORING

One of my favorite movies of 2013. It really does make you think of what Annie Hall would be if it was written by a woman. Great film.

It's an interesting take on living in the city and the struggles that come with it. Greta Gerwig is great. All the supporting characters are interesting. 27 is an awkward time in peoples lives where all your friends are either getting married or just getting drunk all the time.

Noah Baumbach's neat little film about growing up in New York is quaint and quirky. I can understand why someone would think it's a bit of second rate Woody Allen rip off, but I just took it for what it was and really enjoyed it. Greta Gerwig is great as the lead, and the goofyness or aloofness just adds to her character rather than detract. Some characters are spoilt, some are unlikeably care free, some are pious and pretentious. But then that's what some people are like.

If I was to be hyper critical I'd say that the third act just announces itself rate abruptly on our laps, and could have done with a few more scenes to bed in, especially given the movies' short running time. But that' a minor quibble. Baumbach's films continue to entertain me.

I found it charming, quirky, unusual, endearing, amusing and interesting. As I was watching I was thinking to myself "I bet this film got loads of hate" and I still think that. But there's always the next Mission Impossible round the corner for the haters. I enjoyed it.

I liked this so much. It was exactly what i was looking for. It was bright (in black and white terms lol), light and funny. Loved those special moments you get to share with Frances. I ended up feeling so inspired and happy in a very simple way. The character was quite… unbearing… i’m sorry… undateble, but we’d be besties for sure. The perfect movie when you feel tired and exhausted of life.

Kinda like a better, highbrow episode of _Friends_. It feels authentic and the old school filmmaking/score are a nice touch. The characters and dialogue are both excellent, though you have to able to stomach a bunch of people that are annoying(ly artistic), which is of course intentional due to it being a coming-of-age story. It’s just a really solid characters study that checks every box; Gerwig suits her role perfectly, the comedy hits, it’s subtle when needed and it goes in a much sadder direction than I initially expected. It’s not quite ambitious or memorable enough to call it amazing, and there are a few minor spots where the filmmaking could be better, but this is a really nice film.

7.5/10

The indie film Frances Ha is an interesting character drama starring Greta Gerwig. The story follows a New York hipster named Frances Halladay who bums around from place to place, struggling to cope as her career stagnates and her friends move on with their lives. Gerwig has a certain magnetism and does an impressive job at carrying the film. And there’s some good writing; particularly the dialog, which is quippy and clever. However, the lack of a traditional story structure is problematic and makes the film seem disjointed. Frances Ha has some problems, but there’s something sincere and compelling about it too.

A coming of age movie out of time. A great mirror to what it means to be 27 in the 21st century, where you don't have a stable home or a stable income but you also know people your age who are married with kids and an apartment in Paris. It's reassuring to know she did find her way. Loved it!
