Seriously, Why does this film rarely get brought up when discussing movies made by Tim Burton. (Even Corpse Bride gets more Recognition than this) In my opinion, this is one of his greater films in recent years. It harkens back to the director's golden days while delivering a heartfelt story with a dark and creepy edge that parodies and honors the horror genre.

It's stop motion animation is nothing short of AMAZING, I love how it all is in black and white and set in a sort of 50's Serbia. The character designs are all distinct and visually appealing and of course, Danny Elfman's Score is lovely and bonkers as per usual. Every year I watch this movie every Halloween and it keeps getting better and better with every viewing.

It's honestly a shame that this movie doesn't get the love that a lot of other well-known Tim Burton movies do. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely no "The Nightmare Before Christmas" but it's still a Lovely, Ernest and Occasionally Horrific movie that is way better then most everyone gives it credit for

Whilst it rarely feels like much of a departure from the usual Burton tropes (and this is of course another version of a previous Burton film), this is a wonderful homage to horror films and stories for adults that also doesn't alienate its core younger audience who will enjoy the mild scares that come in the final act. The stop motion animation lends a tangibility to the world that CGI can't replicate and the black and white photography is stunning. Burton is a master at developing characters who feel alienated and creating sympathy and understanding towards them, and there is incredible warmth in the relationship between Victor and his dog.

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie because it had that classic Tim burton style. I liked the fact that it was in black and white as a modern claymation movie because you could see the gore but not to the point it wouldn’t get streamed. I was rooting for the cat girl and the main boy to get together but about halfway in I realized I’m probably just insane

A very good soundtrack and a familiar "burtonian" storytelling, where the weird kids are actually not as weird as the rest of the community, make this animated film a must-watch for Burton's fans. However the rushed ending and the poorly developed characters do not make it one of the most memorable of his works.
Still pretty funny for both kids and adults.

I didn't remember much of this movie when it was first released, so it was nice rewatching this movie. Each character is likeable in their own way. I'm glad Tim Burton made this in black and white, it really adds a grittiness to it. An amazing movie to watch on Halloween, even though it's not really a Halloween movie.

Good stuff, unmistakably Tim Burton.

'Frankenweenie' is a solid stop-motion horror spoof film from Disney. Interesting plot, coupled with a suitable cast and untypical animation. It's also in black-and-white, which doesn't hamper things at all - I, in a weird sort of way, kinda forgot it was b/w for vast portions.

Charlie Tahan voices the lead character, Victor Frankenstein. You also have well-known names in Winona Ryder (Elsa), Martin Short (Edward) and Catherine O'Hara (Susan). I also liked Martin Landau as Rzykruski. There's decent humour amongst those characters, too.

Worth a watch, for sure.

Tim Burton goes back to the well in this remake of his quirky, ill-fated 1984 short film. Although its visual approach is quite different, trading kitschy live action for super-stylized stop motion, the first two acts are virtually unchanged. And while that dedication to the core concept surely deserves some praise, it also feels a bit thin for a ninety-minute feature. When it's not tossing out pocketfuls of sugary homage or good-natured parody, the plot seems startlingly content to just hang around and gaze back at the audience, right up until the climax arrives to slam on the gas and give us all a bad case of whiplash.

A star-studded cast of underachieving voice actors doesn't help matters, either - Winona Ryder is particularly dry and soulless as the quiet, mumbling girl next door, and we never see quite enough of Catherine O'Hara or Martin Short. The animation work is top-notch, though, serving as a nice reminder that not everything needs to be computer generated to succeed in modern Hollywood.

From Tim Burton comes the animated horror-comedy Frankenweenie. In this satire of Frankenstein, a young Victor brings his pet dog back to life after he’s hit by a car. Featuring the voice talents of Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, and Winona Ryder, the film has a solid cast. And, the story does an interesting job at exploring the misuses of science, and in making clever homages to the horror genre. However, the film ends up feeling very bland and doesn’t really do much with the material. Frankenweenie has a few things going for it, but overall it suffers from poor execution.

I was kind of thinking it would turn out to be all a dream after that moment with the windmill,
when Victor screamed for Sparky who was still inside, that he'd lost his dog _again_
and that he'd wake up and everything that happened after his dog died was just him dreaming, that he'd never tried to bring Sparky back to life.

It's a cute, stylistic remake of Tim Burton's short film from 28 years ago. It's cute, and has a nice style with some funny jokes parodying classic horror films and monsters. It is somewhat predictable, but has some pretty good visuals, especially being done in black and white. If you've seen Tim Burton's previous stop-motion animated movies (especially "The Nightmare Before Christmas"), you'll like this one.
