I don't understand the low ratings already, the film is still in production
I just watched the trailer and it looks really cool

Wasn't a fan of this movie. I'm getting a bit tired of Ryan Reynolds playing the same character in every movie. It worked for Deadpool, but it's growing old watching him act that same way in every movie since. The humour in this movie was mostly a miss for me, though I do admit there were a few moments that drew a chuckle from me. The premise of the movie drew me in, but I don't think it was executed very well. It ended up just being pretty bland and generic, with lots of inconsistencies and things that made no sense. It was as if the people behind the writing had no idea how MMOs work. The cameos from the famous YouTube and Twitch streamers felt a bit cheap too, as if they were just trying to cash in and appeal more to a certain demographic.

Not a horrible movie by any means. But certainly not one that I would recommend either.

It started ok, but it went downhill quite quickly. Few funny moments, nice effects, and the main story line taken from Tron.

Hollywood should just forget about video games. Stop adapting them, stop mentioning them at all. If they can't even adopt a fake one, just stop. Did the writer of this trash even play a game or seen one? Who was this for? For the developers that they portray as idiots? Or the gamers showed to be little kids? They even put streamers into it. Yes, I want more low-quality content in the movie.

A extremely weak film in what it proposes, it's not funny, the script has many holes, stereotyped and irritating characters.

Not a bad movie per se but you can't go 10 minutes without some YouTuber or logo for a real world product being flashed in your face. I'm also convinced the producers have no idea how a video game or servers work.
That said, the acting was pretty good and there were a few humorous moments.

I guess it looks alright, there are some funny bits, some action bits here and there and the acting is perfectly fine (except Taika, he kinda sucked in this), but this is still one of those homogenized, mediocre blockbusters we’ve seen too many of over the past 10 years.
It’s funny that they try to make fun of products that are lowest common denominator during this film, only to fall into the trap of being just that.
It’s also kinda loud and obnoxious.
The way they used music in this (as well as the editing) kinda makes it feel like it’s made for people who use Tiktok.
And it’s filled with a lot of cheap pandering (famous gamers inserts, meaningless references to other films).
I don’t hate it, it’s too semi-competent and inoffensive for that, but is this really the bar people?
This gets an 80% RT score with a 7.0 average, and an A Cinemascore?
You gotta hand it to Hollywood for the fact that people keep buying it.

What a great movie! It wasn't a good movie, it was a great movie.

Free guy is every gamers / nerds wet dream! The jokes, the scenes it's so familiar and the acting is amazing. Also a few bonuses but I won't spoiler them for you. Go see it, you won't be disappointed!!

Surprisingly funny! Thought I saw all the best bits in the trailer but was absolutely entertained. Highly quotable. LOVED the various references, [spoiler] especially the Avengers & Star Wars nod! [/spoiler] Honestly they had me at Fantasy! Would definitely watch again 4.5/5 :star:

A good feel movie

I went in not fully knowing what to expect as I hadn’t seen the trailer for it and I was not disappointed. The story was very cleverly written [spoiler] and the cameo had the audience whooping and clapping. [/spoiler] Would go and see it again for that part alone as well for the relationship between Buddy and Guy despite originally going to see it for Jodie Comer and Joe Keery (who played excellent parts I might add)

Taika Waititi’s character in this movie kinda hits an interesting point: audiences nowadays see their entertainment as a KFC meal.
Everything needs to be calculated and meet the exact expectations of what we ordered in order to be liked by the masses, leading to an industry where lowest common denominator thinking is increasing by the day.
Now, I like that this movie subverts some of that (original and creative idea, fresh characters), but it still wears its influences heavily on its sleeve (_The Matrix, The Lego Movie_ and _The Truman Show_ just to name a few) and there are still plenty of dumb, pandering choices to be found (using snippets of populr music in an obvious way, loud & overblown action, meaningless intertextual references, the inclusion of famous Youtubers just to pander to gamers).
Overall, it’s just fine, critics are really overhyping it (and I get why, I’d also rather see more of this than established IP).
The characters are given just enough depth, the cinematography is average, the acting is fine (except Taika, who’s playing it way too broad) and it has just enough laughs.
Watch it when it comes to streaming.

Watched it today with the family and we all really enjoyed it. The story itself wasn't anything new but it was fun to watch. Some of the stuff that happens did have a different take from other movies like this.

I will say that there is a specific scene near the end of the movie that was completely worth the entire movie. The entire theater was clapping and yelling when it happened. When you watch it you'll know.

That was very funny and loved every moment and being a gamer I loved it even more. Some great cgi and good performance from all cast, specially Taika, loved his character, great actor and director and liked the fact they made real streamers a part of it, it blended in great.

This movie starts out well enough but then things quickly go off the rails. I should have known because Shawn Levy and Zak Penn do not instill confidence in anything creative. It really doesn’t know what it wants to be as it jumps from Truman Show, They Live, Black Mirror to Ready Player One, sprinkled in with YouTube and Twitch streamer cameos. Pretty much none of the humor lands and this movie could have the lowest stakes version of the cliche where we see people from all over the world watching the film play out on their TVs/computers at home. Like why would these people care? They don’t know what is actually going on.

Didn’t expect much going into this film, but was pleasantly surprised by how heartfelt, funny and entertaining it was! This is a solid 8 and well worth a watch for gamers and non-gamers alike!

A great movie to watch to escape the heat of a summer’s day. No poignant point of view. No mind bending complexity. Just a lot of foolhardy fun. Great graphics. Ryan Reynolds being adorable and Jodie Comer kicking butt. Entertaining premise (I think the writers had a lot of fun with all the side gags). I thoroughly enjoyed this film and give it an 8 (great fun) out of 10. [Comedy Action Adventure]
