Interesting as it's likely the first buddy cop film, almost a decade clear of 48 Hours and the raft that followed.

There's a lot here that time would insist you forgive then forget - racial slurs, misogyny, etc.

On the other side there's some practical stunts that are almost Blues Brothers levels of destruction. Moments pepper the film where the 2nd unit obviously had cars and motorbikes and stunt people to put to work!

The dialogue has an improvised feel yet it most attempts at jokes fell flat. Half a century aside, it doesn't hit much with pacing.

Though 48 Hours obviously owes quite a lot to the dynamic created here, the most obvious child is to my eyes Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The pithy dialogue and the convoluted storyline are direct descendants to this film more than any other I've seen.
