An offbeat drama about addiction and 'being high' or an actual sci-fi horror movie? It's a bit of both, being a cross between They Live, Starman, Under the Skin, and Trainspotting! A real one-off that is not for all tastes but for those that do succumb to its psychedelic sensibilities, there is something quite special here.

What did I just watch?! That insane ride was something I didn't anticipate. I don't know how to explain this film. It reminds me of films like Mandy & Enter the Void. Very weird, unique, fresh, trippy, and fun sci-fi horror that tells a story about Barry, a lowlife drug addict who is abducted and then possesed by an alien. As his body is being controlled by the unknown, he roams Cape Town, observes the human life, and discovers the beauty and ugliness of it. There's not much to the story but I'm really drawn to it from start to finish. The lead is excellent! His gestures and facial expressions are spot-on. The 18 warning intro was a nice touch and I didn't expect that interlude. The sound is phenomenal. I liked everything about it.

[Sitges FF] A trash experience turned into a psychedelic and bloody journey. Although the direction is clumsy and the performings are bad, it has something attractive at the beginning, that texture of garish colors and that proposal of surreal touches. But what has a certain magnetism in the first half becomes a tortuous path through increasingly absurd paths that ends up erasing everything that seemed promising.

Definitely a clever and one of a kind type film, but can definitely have some disturbing undertones for anyone who has actually experienced drugs and the road they take you down.

Like Enter the Void, Fear & Loathing and Aphex Twin's Windowlicker had a baby and that baby really, really, really liked getting fucked up. This was weird, no doubt.

This movie felt like a lovechild between E.T. and an Aphex Twin music video... kinda liked it, kinda not.
I hate the woman-gets-instant-pregnant-story-trope so muuuch, why is this a thing?
Looked like it was going to be just a series of trips, stroboscopic images with weird lighting and music. It's slightly better than that. Don't expect a real story though.

Barry is kidnapped by aliens after a heroin trip and either an alien controlling his body or a look alike is sent back.So obviously you spend most of the movie trying to discern whether it is what's really happening or if he's still just tripping (
it's real
).

The lost/weird/otherworldly attitude of Barry is perfect, but that's basically his only expression. What happens to how next is kinda weird, just random encounters, but it looks like wherever he goes there are only people that want to fuck him, drug him, or kill him. Except for one, a hooker that
instantly becomes pregnant and delivers a baby in the seconds after having sex with Barry
comes back later
with her "baby" that already looks like old Barry, nice touch
, they are just one time encounter and have basically no impact on the story, if it can be called a a story.

Not sure it was worth the full feature, but it's different, that's always nice.

Just the type of irresponsible cinema we need for the bizarro world that we currently live in.
