I liked this movie, it seems like it wasn’t a big budget movie but instead relied on good performances. A gritty script mixed with tragedy and sadness made this a movie worth watching with enough action for the guys

_Galveston_ looks good but it's deserted and uneven. It's a nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there--or really even visit, truth be told.

French actress turned director Mélanie Laurent makes a film that has a certain amount of ruddy style but her screenplay lacks structure with misplaced plot points, a lopsided narrative arc, and obscure character motivation. It's difficult to get into a film with a script that pushes the viewer away. More's the pity.

On a side note, I'm pleased to see Elle Fanning mature as an actress. She still has a ways to go, but her performance here is remarkably better than that of, say, 2011's _Twixt_. As for Ben Foster, the only way he could act badly would be obnoxiously drunk in a bar, but never on screen.

The Galveston movie was born from the creator of True Detective, it has this beautiful song on his soundtrack, it has a plot on which you can invent wonders, that daughter of angels Elle Fanning plays.
It could have everything, but it has nothing. A screenplay written with your feet.
Basically, there are just been shit.

Grim, fatalistic crime drama. One with knockout performances from its leads. It's a very flawed, very human story, where characters seek redemption, but their harsh realities work overtime to keep them down. Laurent makes an impressive directing turn here with this noir tale.

Hard film where the rot of deep white America is well reflected as well as how shabby and ruthless is organized crime in the average American cities.

Foster and Fanning are great, and the movie as a whole is okay. However, it's a fairly miserable experience, and with a lead character that's tough to like, there is patience needed to make it to the end.
