This is the very first Gamera movie. It's just what you'd think...cool miniatures, clunky kaiju costume, baffled scientists. You know the routine. The most memorable thing I'll say about "Gamera" (the Giant Monster) is "Plan Z RULES"!!! And that the opening scenes with the U.S. Military plotting Gamera's movements is just about the worst acting I've ever seen. But of course, I loved those scenes.

Genuinely amazing. Im trying to watch this through the eyes of a young boy in 1965 in cinema. And I'm blown away. I've not seen Godzilla yet so I don't know how it compares. The acting is way better than expected and though they take liberties when it comes to science, their reasoning is sound. If heat doesn't work, let's go the opposite direction. The Gamera suit doesn't even look that bad. When he walks away from the power plant, it looks good. The thing that impresses me most is the amount of work that most have gotten into making the miniatures. It doesn't feel like he's just rampaging through cardboard buildings. There seems to be layers for Gamera to break through. This was made only 5 years after my favourite movie "The Time Machine" but without the Hollywood funding and it already looks better.

This is the very first Gamera movie. It's just what you'd think...cool miniatures, clunky rubber suit, baffled scientists. You know the routine. The most memorable thing I'll say about "Gamera the Giant Monster" is that Plan Z RULES!!! And that the opening scenes with the U.S. Military plotting Gamera's movements is just about the worst acting I've ever seen. But of course, I loved those scenes. The opening scene with Gamera rising from his frozen Arctic prison and the atomic cloud that releases him look really neat. Little Toshio is psychotic in his pursuit of Gamera.
