I soooo love it how the trailer completely ignores that the all-female Ghostbusters movie ever existed. Like it never happened, like it was only a bad dream.

@david-the-dev Which pissed off Leslie Jones as soon as the movie was announced. But hey her movie made believe the 1984 classic never happened...

@david-the-dev That's because the all female cast was a reboot. This is a sequel. Know the difference.

If there’s something strange in your neighbourhood, stay indoors and settle down with this movie. It’s a sweet, nicely acted film, that pays homage to the original movies while still doing its own thing. Ignore the sniffy reviews written by some critics. I, for one, am not afraid of their posts!

Say what you will about the 2016 version, but at least it understood that Ghostbusters is a silly high concept comedy from the funny people from SNL and not a serious, brooding drama with "lore" that needs exploring.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’:

1. The best parts of the movie were, hands down, all the nostalgia… the reunions, the music, and the easter eggs. And I thought the tribute to Harold Ramis was beautiful — and incredibly impressive.

2. I kinda hated the _complete_ lack of any _Ghostbusters 2_ recognition.

3. It was a cute movie, and I enjoyed it, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. I’ve been scratching my head to decipher what exactly was lacking… but, honestly, I just think the story itself is simply forgettable. It started out with potential, but ultimately wasn’t strong enough for such a legacy. I can appreciate revisiting Gozer, but it felt like a miss to me. I think I would’ve preferred more of an original story than what felt like a rushed rehash.

This is a really special movie. It honours the originals and serves as a direct sequel, expanding the lore of their universe and creating new characters that are fun to follow. It feels like an old-style adventure movie of the likes of "The Goonies", "The Sandlot" or "E.T."

This is the only movie deserving to be the 3rd in the Ghostbusters trilogy.
It was a lot of fun, smart, and brought back so many good memories. A throwback to when blockbuster movies were good and fun, with feelings. I loved how Trevor and Phoebe actually looked like their grandfather Egon.

They could easily make a couple more sequels with this cast.

I only have one negative thing to say - Paul Rudd was really creepy as the gatekeeper. Maybe a little too much so. lol

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Yes, it's more a less a retread of the first but yes I had a blast. There was a bittersweet moment init that made my eyes well up. The whole audience burst into song at the end AND My three year old kept proclaiming how good the film was. That alone is enough to give 8 stars to a nostalgia play

Oh and both the mid-credit scene and the end credit bumper were gold

A bit of a nothing burger, it doesn’t really get interesting until the final 20-30 minutes.
There are some entertaining bits inbetween (e.g. there’s a fun scene with Paul Rudd in a Wallmart), but there’s not nearly enough going on.
It’s just mostly bland: some decent acting and directing, but there’s not a lot of action, mystery, charm, clever comedy, drama or characters to get invested into (besides McKenna Grace).
For example, Finn Wolfhard gets as much development as the older brother from Jurassic World, he’s a teen and he wants to get laid. That’s it.
There are, of course, a lot of ‘member berries, which add nothing besides empty nostalgia.
The original Ghostbusters leave the biggest impression with just 5 minutes of screentime, and they clearly didn’t even give a shit about being there.
It’s not the worst thing ever, but this falls short of the benchmark for this kind of movie.
Just watch the original, or anything directed by Spielberg and Cameron in the 80s/90s.

5/10

It respects the original film and pays homage to it with many emotional moments. It still delivers an exiting new cast and it was fun to watch them work together keeping the quirky humour intact that we expect from a ghostbusters movie. Stay puft in your seat and watch!

Like a Happy Meal: not disgusting but not enough meat and made for kids.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife isn't a film for all ages, it's more for just the younger ones. It was nice to see the original cast reunited and the references were cute but I prefer the 2016 reboot, tbh.

That film had a heart with a little cheese and it was good to get that ghostbusters feeling again and all the cast were great and that ending was special, The film defo had a shine in it's own way.

We really liked it. The way that the movie tied back into the originals was very well done. They had a bit of suspense and a bit of what in the heck just happened at the first of the movie. Then the blanks were filled in as the movie went on. Overall I don't think there were any slow parts of the movie. I'll definitely pick this up when it comes out.

Such mixed reviews but The critics mostly hate & the viewers mostly love it. I will rewatx* reqa* rewatch the old N and then go watch this one to give honest opinion. I enjouyed all versions of the Ghostbusters but the original sequence* sequel was weaker. The Ghosbusters 2016 - I did not think od* of as a reboot/sequel just as a paraody of Original hence I enjoyed it too. This one looks quite boring to me via trailers, I assume I will mostly enjoy the Paul Rudd comedic scenes but I will watch with open-mind and give true opinion of whole film next week.

@fan420 It actually has more better reviews than bad. Some seem biased if you read the ones that mention the 2016 movie.<br /> Where they actually act mad that the fans got the movie they wanted.

It lacks character build up or an original story but has plenty of heart and charm. It also has a nice 80’s family movie feel to it. It’s not a spectacular movie but it’s a nice movie.
Yet it still will probably make you wish there was more to it despite being a pretty decent return of the series. That is still at least more like the original than the 2016 movie. Even if it pretty much acts like more didn’t happen after the 1984 incident.
So some fans might not like that it didn’t only erase the 2016 movie but possibly the 1989 sequel as well. Critics who didn’t like it call it too much of a fan service which yeah can be surprisingly disappointing. It however it does still work as a heartfelt Harold Ramis tribute.
Leslie Jones called this movie a dickish move that it was made instead of a sequel to her 2016 movie. However, her movie is a dickish move since it was an unnecessary reboot that made believe the 1984 film never happened. Especially too close to when Harold Ramis just died.

@jim222001 The 2016 movie was just a sexist piece of trash that tried to cash in on the credit of a great classic and failed miserably! There is a lot of shit getting rebooted or "reimagined" because they can't come up with their own thing and be successful so they try to cash in on someone else's success. I would like to see another movie continuing off of this, so Ghostbusters #4 because I too would exclude the 2016 sexist one
and they did leave it open for another one at the end of the credits if you are one who knows to **stick around until AFTER the credits** and you just might get rewarded. Lol
If you are excited for a legacy sequel to a movie over 35 years old, I think this movie does its job of bringing in new characters while giving some weight to the OGs. I suppose I can understand people complaining about nostalgia but I’m not sure what you expected going in. We saw what happens when you try to slap the name Ghostbusters on a whatever/bad comedy that has special effects and the results were much worse. This film leans into the Amblin feel as we follow “kids on an adventure” but I think it handles the humor and the supernatural balance as well as a Ghostbusters movie should. And while it gives proper respect to the original Ghostbusters, they let the new characters take center stage. The main criticism I have is the limited scope of the villain selection but I understand the need for shorthand as they are setting up this new world.
