For his next project, successful music producer Frank Farian hires dancers Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan and helps the two friends to a skyrocketing success. Under the name Milli Vanilli, Rob and Fab storm the international charts, land three number one hits in the USA and enjoy the extravagant life in Hollywood. Only a small circle of insiders know their secret: the duo don't sing themselves, they just move their lips - to the voices of the real singers. At the height of their fame, Rob and Fab even win a Grammy, but the situation behind the scenes becomes increasingly tense and Milli Vanilli threatens to become the biggest scandal in music history. Not only the truth is at stake, but also their friendship...

This was actually great. Doesn't feel like a German production at all. I's overall super stylishly filmed - I loved the contrasts between Bavaria and LA and the overall 80s feeling. There was a lot of attention to detail in many scenes and sets. The pacing is well done and the actors are all doing a fantastic job. I'm usually not a big fan of Matthias Schweighöfer as an actor, but this was his best perfomance to date. The idea of breaking the 4th wall from time to time worked really well and adds to the emotional investment. Of course there is some good fun in it as well. I really loved the ending, the last 10 minutes. Ending a tragic story like this on such a nice and reconciling note is a great accomplishment.

the trailer was irritating. I thought it's comedy. glad it wasn't. very stylish filmed, very sad context. It was very interesting to see the different sides of this "music project". Everyone performed very good. gonna watch this movie again for sure ♡
