The monster battles are awesome. There are a ton more than the last one and I loved every second. It makes up for all the family drama they make us watch to get to those fights. Hopefully the next one will be Godzilla and Kong fighting for 90 minutes with little to no humans.

@nmahoney416 If you think about it. Only the dad wasn’t evil lol. I mean the Millie Bobby Brown character watched all these nice scientists killed.
By people her mom was teaming up with. Yet stayed with her over leaving with her dad. Also agreed with the monsters unleashed to heal the planet.
Anyway I agree with you. I wish critics see as open minded as us.
As a Godzilla movie it was awesome.

Ridiculous "plot", failing to provide an even slightly reasonable background for the action.

But worse is how the combat between the titans never manages to create a minimum of excitement.

As a lifelong Godzilla fan, I was excited for this movie. It’s mostly a letdown. It’s fun for what it is. Lots of “Oh. Come. ON!” moments. The effects are mostly mediocre. The acting is atrocious. But, you get your Godzilla and fellow titans fix. It won’t be winning any awards, but I’ll be watching the next one. I’m a glutton for pain.

The human sections drag down what was otherwise a very entertaining monster movie with a semi-decent lore behind it. The human characters are just so unbearably annoying and behave in an irrational manner at all times.

I cringed every time the camera cut to the protagonist's family struggling right in the middle of the monsters fighting, as if I was supposed to give one flying fuck about any of them.

Godzilla stepping on the whole lot of 'em and putting them out of their misery while they were driving the Humvee during the fight scene near the end of the movie, or better yet, much earlier in the film when they were all in in Antarctica, would have bumped my score for this movie up by several points.

Without ever seeing a single Godzilla movie before, I jumped right into this with my fiance and the results were interesting. The movie itself was a roller coaster of a ride with some parts being very enjoyable and others being downright cringey.
I'm not really sure how main doctor lady was able to justify her logic of "the environment's in trouble so I'm gonna release some monsters and kill everyone", especially given the fact that it more felt like she just wanted everyone to feel the pain of losing someone to a monster like she did her son? On the comforting side, at least Maddie was smart enough to realize her mother is a goddamn supervillain and decided not to be the same
All in all, like everyone else will say, the monster fights were great, the human characters.... Not so much

I didn't like first movie at all. Skull island was decent and I kinda liked it. Thinking same, I watched this part. This has better VFX and action sequences. And screenplay is very boring and predictable. Actions sequences are very less and color toning is very dark. Movie is lengthy too.

I dunno, how Godzilla vs Kong will be. I dont see any other future in this franchise.

The real 100-ton monster in the movie is the cringey-as-hell dialog. Hard to watch, but the monster fights were pretty cool.
