This movie is interesting in its own right with the 70s spy genre kind of working its way into this cheesy sci-fi action flick. Adding a slightly more compelling human side of the story than most Godzilla movies.

Now, what is left in this movie besides the human side of things? Well, the introduction of Mechagodzilla is very nice and makes for a greatly designed villain. But it's of course, the same damn premise in every other Godzilla movie recently. Aliens.

There is also the addition of another monster here and that they also have a nice design. But... they don't do anything. Even with all the hype that was built up for them to be the one to save the day. They just don't do anything. Was a lame segment that whole thing was to put us through with that damn song. Oh my lord, that song.

But, as I said, the human story was neat. Fitting to see the spy genre slip into Godzilla and actually make it fit nicely. Even if the aliens aren't too memorable or as well designed as the monsters. Actually, I don't even remember their goals. But that's just something you always do in these movies. Who cares about the goals of the antagonists.

While the action is okay, I would have preferred to see more destruction, but they have once again, gone back to open spaces with almost no buildings to destroy. Clearly, the budget is getting lower. Either that or they wasted it all with the opener fight.

It's an okay entry into the series and the introduction to the iconic Mechagodzilla. The human story is lovely and had me on board the whole time, but lacks real... Godzilla moments.
