A character study featuring Oscar bait for Helen Mirren as Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir during the 19-day Yom Kippur War in 1973. Heavy with the implications of war, this one seems to move both too fast and too slow all at once. Context is the critical thing lacking in the writing here, but the hair and makeup team deserves accolades for stellar work.

"Golda" is the kind of biopic in which a well-known actor or actress embodies a historical figure almost beyond recognition, hidden behind prosthetics. In this case, Helen Mirren plays the chain-smoking Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir during the Yom Kippur War. Mirren does her job well overall, as expected, but the movie is nothing special. The production is rather boring and uninspired. There is never any tension, at least not if you are familiar with the events of the war. The movie doesn't really have anything to say either, the focus on Meir's poor state of health wasn't enough for me in that regard.

is this real? Is there a sane person who supports what happened and is still happening from a nation that fakes reality and wants to be present on the map at the cost of the country and the blood of other people? I would rather see a documentary about the other side of the suffering that all the people who have no power or strength to “sympathize” have experienced and are experiencing.

Good performance from Mirren but the film failed to make much of an impact.

Huge disappointment. The script, the dialogue, the atmosphere... bad. Worst period drama with Helen Mirren

There is a lot of smoke and a lot of maps in a film that portrays Golda Meir facing a war between hospital visits and nightmares, a woman weakened by the disease who nevertheless must transmit strength. The notebook in which she writes down the numbers of soldiers killed in the battle seems like a somewhat manipulative resource, but the look that Helen Mirren reflects beyond the makeup offers more depth than the director's attempts to wrap the story of transcendence around a bitter victory. The focus of the action on the ten days of the war limits the look at the character.

"There were no such thing as Palestinians. It was not as though there was a Palestinian people in Palestine considering itself as a Palestinian people and we came and threw them out and took their country away from them. They did not exist.”
Said the war criminal who herself was a refugee in Palestine and had a Palestinian passport and even called herself a Palestinian in an interview. Now they made a movie about her.

I only watched it because it got Best Make-Up and Hairstyle at the Oscar nominations this year.

Man, this was torture to get through. The film is so dull and bland to look at. It's like Oppenheimer but made by an idiot.

I struggle to think of another biopic or historical drama which seems less interested in telling its own story. Signed, a Jewish American
