One of the few 2020 shows I didn't catch last year. I enjoyed this a lot, it does feel like something made in the veins of My So-Called Life but for the 21st Century with multiple diverse storylines. Each character got me invested in the first installment and I was on board with their stories until...

Although I usually take out the behind the scenes occurrences of a series or film out of my opinion (I don't mention Roman Polanski's personal life every time I watch one of his films), it was difficult to do this after reading this article midway through the season. I'm a Latino who has experienced numerous Karen's block me from achieving my creative endeavors because their ideation of what a Latino or anyone of a different race or ethnicity is that we need a white savior to tell our stories for us instead of allowing us to tell them ourselves. I'm not a fan of that. This is Katie Cappiello's show, she's the creator and wrote most of the episodes. I believe she can decide who she will listen to in terms of the show's direction. I won't spoil much, but many of the characters of color end up in places that seem untrue to their identities and in the end the only character who appeared victorious in their obstacle was the straight white woman.

@pedrobarragan237 I agree with most points but you lost me here "and in the end the only character who appeared victorious in their obstacle was the straight white woman."<br />
My takeaway was that only Dom has actually achieved something (in the poverty porn storyline that the writer mentions), Sid is getting there (the show missed an easy opportunity here to have him at least questioning whether he might be bi while talking to Victor), and the others are all still scrambling.
@dtsouza Your points kinda prove my case. Dom is the only who the writers showed direct interest in. The rest create iffy and problematic choices which we'll never know the resolution to but they were all done by characters of color. Like the girl creating the fake threat. As a person of color, the link above is quite concerning as it shows that even though writer rooms may be interested in hiring diverse voices, it appears they have no interest in hearing those voices. I do believe that the final decision lies with the showrunner, but its problematic to hire a diverse team to create a show about a diverse set of people and not use their insight. As a person of color, that reminded me of a lot of places I have worked at.
