Yes it has been done before, yes the budget is clearly a bit lower than others, yes the usual hoops are jumped through but there are also a couple of interesting morale and shocking moments. Not always well judged but also a surprise to see them addressed in a popcorn movie like this.
Easy escapist entertainment with its heart in the right place.

@lorne34 good review and I too was surprised by how much I cared about the people. Gerard is a very underrated actor. I liked it!

We've seen this film 2012 times and the day after tomorrow it's not impossible that there will be yet another geostorm in a teacup.

But the first two acts of _Greenland_ are more suspense than disaster and the film is all the better for it. Director Ric Roman Waugh does a great job of building tension around how people act in the face of a world threatening event and the sense of urgency rubs off on the viewer.

Sadly, though, the final act slips into the clichés one would expect from a film of this genre, but not badly enough that it erases the good work that precedes it.

I gave this an extra star based on the fact that everyone in the movie is so dumb just like the people I see outside everyday.

I guess if you seen one movie about the world ending you see them all. Predictable a lot of action not necessarily believable action but it's really good for surround sound listening to stuff explode

I have watched this movie with different names over and over again in different years. It is just another disaster movie. This time people are running away from a comet which is visiting Earth.
But when I saw Butler is on the menu, tbh I expected more.
Unfortunately, he is just another hero who is saving the day.
I wanted some more fight, some more action but nah. He is just running from one side to another like Baccarin. He and she got 5/10 from me like they care.
Anyway I can not the pass the idiot child who is causing all trouble and action.
Movie 6/10 timekiller...

@oh_my_jihyo
No. that's because he caused all the mess by dropping the shots at the car and making the couple separated.
Not the disaster I expected it to be, considering Butler's last venture into this genre was Geostorm, and his reteaming here with the director of the awful 'Has Fallen' films. It's a more serious-minded affair than most - think Deep Impact and not Armaggedon - and is all the better for it. There are some silly moments, but its still tense and engrossing, without the need for overblown spectacle.

This was better than I thought it was going to be. I was surprised by how much I cared what happened to the people and the directing was well above par. Gerard Butler is an underrated actor and this movie will keep your attention nicely. One recommendation... you'll have to decide to unmask this text...
stop the film just after the fast flashback of life memories as the family are sitting on the floor in the bunker.
It’s your run-of-the-mill end of the world disaster movie. Every twist and turn is predictable as we’ve all seen it done a thousand times.
That said, if you go in expecting it to be exactly what it is, without any ridiculous expectations that it might somehow be something different, then you’ll probably enjoy this movie - I know I did.

The acting from our beloved Gerard and Morena was, as always, on point and made the experience much more believable (not that being _more_ believable is particularly tricky).

It was nice to see that a couple of birds survived the apocalypse, regardless of the fact that mankind completely hung them out to dry.

I really enjoyed this movie because it really dug deep into how important you are to the survival of the planet (If you are lucky enough to have a special skill, you can survive).

I'M a delivery driver (I'M SCREWED)....

But I really enjoyed this movie it captured my attention.

well done.

If you're going to remake Deep Impact, at least have the balls to call it that. It's not terrible, but it's not as good as the original.

I really liked this movie.

I'm gonna be as vague as I can possibly be here, but if you decide to watch it, stop watching the movie at the 1:50:56 mark and let that be the end of the movie for you.
the actual end of the movie sucked! It's a world-ending disaster movie. You don't need to ruin the whole film with a happy, everything is going to be back to normal vibes at the end. a complete waste
I had high hopes being a fan of Butler and Baccarin but this move was all over the place. For the longest time it seemed to forget it was even an end of the world disaster movie going from bad plot like to bad plot line with very little in the way of excitement or end of the world imagery most people are after in these movies. Terrible movie!

Better than average disaster movie, although they still did some stupid things on their way to 'safety.' In the end was it all worth it?
What will the world be like after a catastrophe of that magnitude?
I'd just grab a chair a cigar and get drunk while watching the lightshow.
7.5/10
