Very creepy and atmospheric but it was slow and boring for the most part. I did like the score and I thought it was shot well.

@rush_done Sophia Lillis was, but the only thing that was good about this film. The film as such was terrible nonsense and it had nothing to do with horror, just boredom, boredom and boredom.

Visually stylish and interestingly told. It won't be for everyone - this is an artier take on the classic story - but for the patient viewer, there are rewards.

[Amazon] The need to interpret the classics by giving them a current point of view, especially in the portrayal of hardly credible characters, is a bad habit of modern cinema. If an empowerment exercise is intended, then it's necessary to transfer the action to another era. Because it doesn't make sense in the context of story or time. Here, the aesthetics tries to hide the uselessness of a ridiculous point of view.

The Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale is reimagined in the atmospheric horror film Gretel & Hansel. After being thrown out of their home Gretel and her younger brother Hansel head into the forest and come upon an old woman who takes them in, but Gretel soon grows suspicious of the woman and her intentions toward her. As the title suggests this is feminist reinterpretation of the Grimm tale that explores issues of objectification of women, female empowerment, and identity. So much so that there’s very little room for story. Yet Sophia Lillis and Alice Krige do their best and play well off of each other. And the film has an interesting aesthetic that helps to create a dark, mystical tone. However, despite its artistry, Gretel & Hansel is dull and monotonous.

I found it a curious and very visual version, but a bit strange and it focuses more on the form than the content

Undoubtedly and unarguably beautiful - a nearly 90-minute presentation of art, but it is so...boring. It's boring because it's not really about anything, really. The kids find the cottage in the woods. In the cottage is the witch, and then what? Personal journey's aside, nobody is trying to fix any kind of universal inequity.

I don't get the low rating. It's a solid movie, visually striking, and Sophia was great too. Yes it might be slow paced but I found it to be fine for a fairy tale.

Like many others who've seen this film, I think it's slowly paced, well acted and beautiful to look at. If you are familiar with the fairy tale, you know the plot.

I found this to be a very good movie to watch at Halloween, with its witch and Autumn atmosphere.

This is going to move much too slow for most people. It's got a creepy vibe but it's not horrific. Sophia Lillis as Gretel and Alice Krige as the old witch are really good. The ending was not satisfying. It knocked my rating down a point. Everything that came before it exceeded my expectations.

more of a visual experience than a narrative, and it's quite good at what it's trying to be. sophia lillis is a delight, as always.

I liked the 80’s like score and Sophia Lillis (IT) was solid. The movie isn’t perfect but isn’t as bad as some say either. Just because they are mad that it wasn’t the movie they wanted.
The movie was still creepy. Though it is mostly about a young woman finding herself in an era where men thought women were only around to do their bidding.
