I love the fact that there was a live action version of Fullmetal Alchemist. And this, as the final 140 minutes, is the end of a huge effort.

But ultimately, it was disappointing, and I imagine barely understandable to those who weren't familiar with the source material

This is one for the enthusiasts, and I expect you will be disappointed

The first movie was a terrible disaster, and I was very pleased with the second movie when I reviewed it here, really hopeful the production could keep on with the improvements in "The Final Alchemy".

Man... Although Izumi Curtis and Olivia Armstrong's personifications were very good and faithful to what Fullmetal Alchemist presented us, the whole movie is full of screenplay holes. Events happen in such a fast pace it kinda makes it hard to absorb the story and sequences that should be strongly connected are just thrown at us without even a faint link to tie them, valuing that the audience had watched either the other movies or the original series - understandable, but shouldn't be assumed.

And then there's (IMHO) some of the best scenes in the anime - Ed's at "The Gate of Truth" promising to come back to rescue Al; Führer's sword fight and Mustang barbecue'ing Envy - that merely became shallow versions of the original ones.

If you loved the show or watched both movies, it's certainly worth to watch as a closure, otherwise, really, spend your time with something else because "The Final Alchemy" unfortunately is as disappointing as the first movie.
