Have to average this one out as it was kind of unremarkable overall. Story was a bit convoluted and difficult to follow; you kept thinking you knew what was going on, but it kept you guessing. Apart from Steven Seagal, it had a halfway decent supporting cast; Morris Chestnut, IMO, was the real "star" of this one. Steven Seagal was a cookie-cutter clone of every other movie he's played in, but Chestnut pulled his role off beautifully. I had to give it a "minus 2 stars" purely on a personal note, however, because I absolutely detest "lady villains"…especially when they're so obviously riding on the coattails of a true hardcore killer and suddenly the dumb broad starts thinking - and acting like - it's all her and the world is quaking in their boots because of who and what SHE is. The moment I laid eyes on Nia Peeples as"49'er Six", I wanted to turn this off and go watch something more interesting...like maybe the mating ritual of the common garden slug. Why producers think this works is beyond me…although I guess there ARE some "momma's boy"-type freaks out there who get their jollies on dominant female characters telling them they've been naughty. Not sure what the blue eye-liner was all about but she looked like she threw a paint bucket into the air and ran under it, trying to catch it with her eyes. Totally ridiculous. I had to give it a few ADDED stars, however, because the fight scenes were actually pretty decent...but then I had to take away from that simply because the "fight scene" between Seagal and Chestnut - on the chains - was far too difficult to follow. After watching the movie, I still couldn't tell you what (if anything) was accomplished while those two were swinging back and forth on a bunch of chains hanging from the ceiling. The conclusion was satisfactory, and you've GOT to watch through the closing credits: the trailing scene was a great way to end what was otherwise a purely forgettable movie. I wanted to really enjoy this, but sadly there were just too many things about it that were completely ridiculous, forgettable, or in some other way caused this one to just fade into nothingness. If you're a fan of Seagal, you might like this one; it falls short of his early ponytail-sporting strutting roles, but he still manages to pull it off here...with a lot of help from his friends.
