A very fun, very 2000's movie. Busta Rhymes. Reality TV. Exploding internet culture. At first blush, it's just another cash cow to milk the period's slasher flick renaissance by digging up an old horror icon for yet another romp through a pile of corpses. Pay attention though and you'll get a glimpse of what we were all thinking about in an age where technology was changing the world faster than most people could keep up with. DangerTainment is an online streaming platform where people could tune in to watch reality TV, interactively and as it happened. This was 9 years before Twitch and 3 years before YouTube, but the desire was there and so was the sense that anyone could do it. The concept was so new, it seems like a ridiculous scheme in the movie, but we know now that if someone had established DangerTainment in 2002 to even moderate success, they'd likely be billionaires by now. It's a look into a world that's so much like ours in so many ways, but it's just a little off. It's less like seeing people with antiquated technology and more like an alternate reality where we just happen to use Palm Pilots instead of smartphones. Compare this to the original 1978 film where you might forget that Laurie can't call the police from a wrist watch or even than phone lines could be cut by the killer and it's more clear than ever how different the information age is to everything that came before.

Anyways, the movie sucks aggressively.
