Yah! What a difference 8 years can make as far as some folks opinions of you goes. Not ONE of the negative commentators on this DEBUT film from untrained and untested (as far as acting at least) would say shizz to her face, as, they KNOW what they probable result would be. But Keybored warriors gonna keyboard, so continue to type away while you stuff yourself with Twinkies and Mountain Dew in your Mom's basement, while the grown-ups get on in the real world.

Steven Soderbergh saw Ms. Carano's fight with the steroid pumped Chris "Cyborg" Justino, and, in spite of her (questionable) loss, said, "this woman can be an action star", then called her up and asked if she wanted to make a movie. Gina being Gina of course said sure why not. First time out of the gate, and YOU have to carry the movie. It is an ACTION Movie, not "Shakespeare in Love", so, the producers surrounded her with known, bankable, stars, kept the dialog simple, and shot the story around set pieces designed to let Gina do what Gina does best, that is, kick azz and chew bubblegum, but, unfortunately, they ran out of bubblegum.

It was a framework to see if she had the skills to hang with the big boys and carry a movie, We've seen MUCH worse, from Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Statham, Willis, Jovovich, et al, and they received less vitriol than was directed at this enterprise.

I enjoyed it for what it was when it was first released, and, due to the recent online silliness, I decided to give it a rewatch to see if my opinion had changed. It hasn't, and, in spite of the cancel mob, it looks like she's not gonna go down without swinging, and may take out a few of the big boys gunning for her on her escape to freedom.

Unfortunately this movie is the case of the trailer being a lot better than the movie. I was hoping for some nice revenge-movie with a kick-ass female agent. Unfortunately this movie does not really deliver on that. It is quite slow for starters. Sure, at times Mallory does kick some ass but a lot of the time is spent on flashbacks and much of these are really really slow.

The plot is a very standard and unoriginal one about agent getting double-crossed and subsequently deals out some pay-back. I have no problem with that. It is a valid setting for some nice action. The problem lies in the implementation.

The acting is never anything to write home about. You get the feeling all the characters are just reading of the script in order to get the scenes done and over with. As a consequence you never really get any attachment to neither the heroine nor the bad guys. Most of the movie I just sat and waited for the next action scene to begin. There are quite a few good names in this movie but, sadly, none of them are really allowed to “take the stage” and give any real performance.

The bottom line is a very mediocre and sometimes downright boring movie.

Been some time since I last watched this one but on a lark, decided to revisit and while not great and certainly a weaker entry amongst Soderbergh's resume, I found it entertaining enough and the raw fight scenes, with no underlying score, was unique at least and I generally enjoy Gina Carano in the lead here. **3.5/5**
