Yah! What a difference 8 years can make as far as some folks opinions of you goes. Not ONE of the negative commentators on this DEBUT film from untrained and untested (as far as acting at least) would say shizz to her face, as, they KNOW what they probable result would be. But Keybored warriors gonna keyboard, so continue to type away while you stuff yourself with Twinkies and Mountain Dew in your Mom's basement, while the grown-ups get on in the real world.

Steven Soderbergh saw Ms. Carano's fight with the steroid pumped Chris "Cyborg" Justino, and, in spite of her (questionable) loss, said, "this woman can be an action star", then called her up and asked if she wanted to make a movie. Gina being Gina of course said sure why not. First time out of the gate, and YOU have to carry the movie. It is an ACTION Movie, not "Shakespeare in Love", so, the producers surrounded her with known, bankable, stars, kept the dialog simple, and shot the story around set pieces designed to let Gina do what Gina does best, that is, kick azz and chew bubblegum, but, unfortunately, they ran out of bubblegum.

It was a framework to see if she had the skills to hang with the big boys and carry a movie, We've seen MUCH worse, from Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Statham, Willis, Jovovich, et al, and they received less vitriol than was directed at this enterprise.

I enjoyed it for what it was when it was first released, and, due to the recent online silliness, I decided to give it a rewatch to see if my opinion had changed. It hasn't, and, in spite of the cancel mob, it looks like she's not gonna go down without swinging, and may take out a few of the big boys gunning for her on her escape to freedom.
